The Opportunity:

The Data Steward (Nextgen Data) will play an instrumental role in the data conversion for Nextgen and will support the data prep, mapping, and validation for the project. The person will report to the lead data steward. The data steward role requires the person to be very experienced in SAP functionality and functional data in an Energy sector company. The job requires a very high level of skillset with transforming and manufacturing complex to highly complex data for a green field Parkland SAP environment. The data steward will have tight collaboration and interaction with all vertical tiers and horizontal sections/lines of business of the Parkland enterprise.

The data steward should be a functional expert in at least 4 of the below SAP Modules:

  • FICO (Financial accounting and controlling)
  • MM (Materials Management)
  • MDM (Master Data Management)
  • PM (Plant maintenance)
  • SD (Sales and Distribution)
  • TD (Transportation)
  • PP (Production Planning)

Responsibilities:

Functional specification review and Sample data creation:

  • Participate in the review of functional specifications and apply functional understanding of the SAP module to provide feedback and signoff on the document. Review the completeness of the mapping document created by the system implementer. Use functional knowledge of SAP and experience working with SAP to create sample data based on the functional specifications and provide to technical teams working on ETL (Extract Load and Transform).

Data Cleansing

  • Understand source data and design an approach to cleanse/enhance the data. Also, perform data cleansing for the attributes requiring manual cleansing.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional data Subject Matter experts across markets to gather business rules on data quality and transformation into the data mapping template.
  • Work with the data quality team to provide them with requirements for automatic data cleansing. Validate the results of the data cleansing performed by the data conversion tool.
  • Work with sites to guide them on cleansing the data manually with coordination with the customer/vendor. Coordinate with sites on loading the data into legacy systems.

Data Construction

  • Use SAP functional knowledge to work on extremely complex data construction for the data conversion objects in scope. This could be master data such as SAP business partners, materials, transportation, and more challenging objects such as account payables data, accounts receivables, etc. The construction process requires studying a functional spec and mapping sheet to transform source data into SAP ready format Work with process teams to coordinate the data extraction, construction, and load files. Validate data loads in the Target system.

Defect fixing

  • Work with the process teams withing Parkland to fix identified defects during the Mock cutover cycles. The team uses the defect tracking tool to log the progress made against each defect. The defect could be very complex in the case of real time data such as pricing information issues or problems where the master data hierarchies are not clearly defined. Ensure that the defect does not manifest in later iterations of the conversion object.
  • Stay updated with the latest SAP features, functionalities, and best practices related to data conversion and management.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Requirements:

  • Experience of 10-12 years working with SAP and knowledge of its data structures, modules, and functionalities.
  • Proven experience of 8+ years in data management, data conversion, or data migration projects. Experience with 3-4 green field or brown field data migration projects is a must. Experience in green field projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, data cleansing, and data transformation techniques.
  • Experience of 2-3 years required in projects with data integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Excellent documentation and visual presentation skills. Top notch excel skills required.
  • Ability to present to all levels of the organization by highlighting the human aspect of data.
  • Strong understanding of data quality concepts and experience in implementing data quality checks and controls.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data-related issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on data accuracy and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines.
  • Certification or training in SAP data management or data conversion.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and practices.
  • Familiarity with data profiling and data quality tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL and data querying languages.
  • Project management skills to effectively plan and execute data conversion activities.
