Position Requirements:
- at least 10 years of legal experience in the area of wills and estate planning;
- superior knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and math;
- ability to prioritize and adapt to changing demands;
- attention to detail;
- ability to complete multiple concurrent tasks with tight deadlines;
- ability to self-direct and work independently;
- knowledge of relevant computer applications to produce legal correspondence and documents; and
- ability to learn further software related to the job.
Job Description:
You will provide legal administrative support to a number of lawyers in our office with established wills and estates practices. Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking estate and will files with instructions provided by the lawyer and the ability to work on the file from start to finish with supervision;
- Drafting wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements and estate documents;
- Scheduling appointments for the lawyers and entering in calendar;
- Telephone calls to clients, banks, investment companies, accountants, and other individuals and organizations;
- Arranging to retain services of accountants for income tax purposes re estates;
- Keeping clients updated as to the progress of their files;
- Schedule discussions with the responsible lawyer on files which require a legal opinion;
- Communication with your co-workers; and
- General office duties including providing reception relief to our receptionist during breaks and vacation.
