We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Power Engineer to lead the safe, and efficient operation of the mill's energy systems, including boilers, turbines, and auxiliary equipment. The Chief Power Engineer will oversee a team of power engineers and maintenance staff, to ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain all steam and power generating equipment critical to mill operations.
What you will be doing:
- Lead and Supervise the Power Engineers and Control Room Operators
- Review daily logbooks, and complete morning crew talks with the energy crew
- Manage the daily operations of the powerhouse and utilities systems, ensuring compliance with Alberta boiler and pressure vessel regulations laid out by ABSA
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency response plans (ERPs), and preventative maintenance schedules
- Lead root cause analysis and troubleshooting efforts for equipment failures or operational issues
- Maintain all required documentation, including logbooks, reports, and regulatory submissions
- Ensure compliance with all governmental regulations, environmental, health, and safety standards
- Collaborate with other departments (production, maintenance, EHS) to optimize plan performance and energy efficiency
- Coordinate bi-weekly and annual shutdowns, startups, and updates of power systems
- Participate in budget planning, and cost control related to the Energy area
- Assist in sourcing and coordinating various outsourced contractors
- Coordinate regular training and skill upgrading for energy crews
- Continuously learn technical advances in the field, attend conferences and seminars, and contribute to training materials development
What you need to be successful:
- A 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate
Would be considered an asset:
- 3 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing / industrial industry
- Personal Commitment to safety
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
- Strong leadership and communication skills, to drive operational excellence
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, and safety-focused environment
- Proficient with computer systems and reporting tools (ex: CMMS)
- Experience in the forestry or manufacturing industry is considered an asset
