MANAGER, ACCOUNTING
INVEST OTTAWA OPERATIONS
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Manager, Accounting supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the accounting department, ensuring that key controls and standard accounting principles are followed. The Manager ensures accurate and timely reporting for the management team as necessary for budget and operational financial decisions. The Manager, Accounting, also supports the preparation of forecast and budget documents for a variety of stakeholders.
- 10 days per month required in the office at Bayview Yards
WHAT YOULL BE DOING:
- Directly supervise and coordinate activities of employees in the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
- Responsible for producing monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages
- Work with department leaders on annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Responsible for maintaining an effective internal control framework, and improving current accounting processes
- Responsible for contributing to accurate and timely cash flow projections
- Lead the annual financial audits
- Ensure quality and timeliness of reporting, insight, and transaction processing
- Review and approve month-end journal entries and schedules
- Review and approve all tax filings including HST, EHT, WSIB, T2, T4, T4As, etc.
- Support IO team members with regulatory filings or other requests, such as annual insurance data collection, by providing financial data
- Ensure finance systems are functioning effectively by acting as the primary contact with the vendors that support IO
- Any other responsibilities directed by their manager.
WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:
- 5 to 7 years of experience, of which at least two (2) must be leading the accounting function
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration or related field
- Accounting designation (CPA)
- Experience leading a small team, with varying levels of experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting software programs, prior knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Emburse Professional, or EBiz will be an asset.
- Understanding of best practices with respect to budget preparation and financial management
- Strong knowledge of federal tax laws, HST and payroll taxes, and guidelines for nonprofit organizations
- Excellent internal customer service approach and attention to detail
- Fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and tight deadlines

- Written and verbal presentation skills are a requirement
- Working or volunteering with a Not-for-profit organization would be an asset
