The General Manager is a critical member of the Senior Management team responsible for leading the on site management of a diverse portfolio of functions including the oversight of Operations, Human Resources, and Finance. The GM provides leadership, guidance, and coaching, developing and implementing strategic initiatives that support the delivery of high quality resident services.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site leadership, guidance, and coaching to property team
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management and Executive team to develop business strategies and

  • To monitor and regularly review the performance of staff teams, helping them to constantly improve performance and service delivery.

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Oversee all on site Human Resources, responding to all people related issues, and escalating any problems or concerns to the Vice President, Culture and Vice President
  • Participate in the selection and training of new team
  • Manage on site Health & Safety developing and implementing program initiatives reporting and acting on Health and Safety issues in collaboration with the
  • To comply and enforce obligations under Employment Related legislation and regulations, including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities
  • Ensuring on-site weekend coverage by maintenance staff, in addition to after-hours and weekend coverage by leasing staff during key leasing periods.

Financial Responsibilities

  • To control expenditures within set budgets on all aspects of the accommodation including maintenance and resident event
  • To ensure mail is received and make sure invoices are collated into weekly and monthly payment
  • To oversee the prompt action to recover rent arrears or other payments, taking legal action where
  • To report to The Vice President, Rental Management on a monthly basis in regards overdue
  • Oversee the preparation and issuing of N4 Notices to non-paying
  • Prepare and apply for tenant evictions via the Landlord and Tenant Board, as
  • To assist in the preparation of budgets on an annual basis and working with the Finance team on periodic reforcasting.
  • To ensure that all invoices are processed in good time, using correct expense categories;
  • To charge residents for any damage to
  • To oversee the serving notices of rent (or other) changes on

Skills & Requirements

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 1-3 years experience in a management position within the property management field.
  • Experience within the Student Housing industry specifically is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 3 years working in a customer service environment is required.
  • Experiencing managing and leading a team is required.
  • Familiarity with the Landlord and Tenant Board and Residential Tenancy Act is considered a strong asset.
