The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who You Are

The GIR is seeking a motivated and multi-task orientated individual who is flexible and works well in a team environment. Reporting to the Director, GIR, the Industry Relations Manager plays a critical role in the Government and Industry Relations Department. They are responsible for managing resource development applications and addressing environmental concerns on behalf of Mikisew Cree First Nation. This position involves strategic problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and navigating regulatory processes.

This role is temporary.

Roles & Responsibilities

Respond to a diverse range of emails daily from leadership, legal entities, industry representatives, and internal staff.

Prioritize and address inquiries, providing timely and comprehensive responses.

Conduct daily check-ins with staff to ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

Organize and participate in regular meetings with stakeholder groups or service-providing companies.

Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication channels.

Generate monthly reports summarizing key activities, achievements, and challenges.

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to resource development applications and environmental concerns.

Develop and conduct training sessions for staff on consultation processes and industry-specific knowledge.

Build and enhance staff capabilities, ensuring a skilled and knowledgeable team.

Lead and facilitate quarterly internal relationship meetings.

Develop and execute operational plans, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Negotiate and lead discussions related to contribution agreements.

Oversee internal relationship meetings tied to contribution agreements.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a related field is required. Masters degree would be an asset.

10 years of relevant experience in areas of project management, time management, and people management.

Experience in regulatory processes, federal or provincial consultation processes, and staff training.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong active listening skills,

Proven planning, prioritizing, organizing and coordination skills,

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain successful and effective relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts,

Understands Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN) culture, demonstrates cultural competency and sensitivity towards MCFN cultural traditions with the ability to use sound judgement and diplomacy in high stress/conflict situations,

Demonstrated adaptable skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment,

Advanced computer skills and use of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and statistics/data analysis software,

Proven ability to always maintain confidentiality,

Valid Drivers License.

Other Requirements

Work is performed in an office environment

Some evenings and weekends may be required

Willingness and ability to travel, including travel to remote areas

Successful Criminal Record Check

Ability to speak/and or understand the Cree language is considered an asset

Competence in Alberta-specific laws and regulations.

Specialized training in consultation processes is an asset.

Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and manage stress.
