Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Communications, the Communications Assistant will help amplify the voices of First Nations in Manitoba by creating and sharing digital content across AMCs social media platforms. This role is an opportunity to contribute to community-driven storytelling, engage with digital media in a meaningful way, and support advocacy efforts that reflect First Nations priorities.
This position is designed for a post-secondary student looking to gain hands-on experience in communications, social media, and digital storytelling, while working in a dynamic environment that uplifts and centers around First Nations perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in creating and scheduling engaging content for AMCs social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok).
- Monitor online engagement, respond to messages, and interact with followers in a professional manner.
- Support content development, including graphics, short-form videos, and promotional materials using design tools such as Canva, Photoshop, or similar software.
- Research and write social media posts that highlight key initiatives, events, and advocacy efforts of AMC.
- Track social media analytics and provide insights on engagement and growth strategies.
- Assist with event promotion, live social media coverage, and post-event content wrap-ups.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all platforms.
- Help maintain an organized digital asset library of photos, videos, and content for social media use.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Indigenous Studies, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and content creation.
- Experience with social media management tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Buffer, Hootsuite) is an asset.
- Graphic design and video editing skills are an asset.
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and research skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- A passion for First Nations advocacy and awareness of issues affecting First Nations in Manitoba.
Additional Requirements
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check upon hire.
- Preference will be given to First Nations applicants.
