We are currently seeking one full-time contract Human Resources Assistant as part of the Canada Summer Jobs program!

Canada Summer Jobs is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to provide quality summer employment opportunities for youth to develop skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.


The HR Assistant will support the People and Culture (HR) team with a variety of administrative tasks and HR-related projects and initiatives focused on Health and Safety, Human Resources Information System (HRIS), Recruitment and Selection, and Employee Engagement.
Status: 8-week contract full-time, 35 hours per week (anticipated contract dates will fall between May 2025 and August 2025 though could begin earlier based on availability); Work hours will generally fall between 8am and 5pm. Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.


Hourly rate: $18.20


Location: This position is based out of our 601-7700 Hurontario, Brampton, ON office. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model, staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.
What You Will Do


  • Update HRIS on an ongoing basis and run reports for the People and Culture team on a regular basis
  • Support full cycle recruitment by posting jobs, reviewing resumes, coordinating interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Provide administrative support for organizational projects and initiatives
  • Support the People and Culture team in a variety of administration tasks
  • Organize and coordinate training and orientation for new hires
  • Participate in the Occupational Health and Safety committee

What You Need to Join Our Team


Participants of Canada Summer Job roles must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Must be able to work all 8 weeks consecutively

Additional Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a University/College Human Resources program
  • Previous administrative experience, as well as experience working with Human Resources Information Systems would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in person and over the phone
  • Some Knowledge of the Ontario Employments Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation and Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrated accountability with a strong work ethic is required. Must be self-directed with the ability to exercise independent discretion; strong awareness of confidentiality is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team, management and clients
  • Strong computer skills MS Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, database
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
  • Ability to travel within and around Peel Region as required
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
