How You Will Make an Impact

The General Accountant demonstrates responsibility and enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients, visitors and staff by being accountable for the daily accounting functions, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, to ensure compliance with internal and external audit requirements.

Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the General Accountant is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work within the Finance department and Good Shepherd. The General Accountant will be responsible for:

  • To provide service in a dignified, culturally competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Centres and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.
  • Act as a resource to managers and directors as needed
  • To provide back up to Accounting Coordinator position
  • Prepare and process bank deposits and receivables in ERP system
  • To enter donation revenues in the ERP system
  • To confirm accuracy of vendor invoices, and coding and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Calculate HST tax distribution costs and recoveries
  • Assist in compiling data for monthly and quarterly ministry and city regulatory reporting.
  • Record expense allocation codes for accounts payable processing.
  • Assist in processing of cheque and EFT runs
  • Prepare monthly recurring journal entries and accrual journal entries as required
  • Reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations
  • Complete monthly corporate credit card reconciliations
  • Generate Aged AP and AR reports, bringing anything over 90 days to Manager's attention
  • Prepare monthly government HST remittances
  • To process all annual accounting function including:
  • Assist in the preparation of year end working papers for audit requirements
  • Assist Manager of Finance in the Maintenance of the Capital Asset records and reconciliations.
  • To ensure compliance with legislated regulations, agency guidelines and policies, including adherence to established approval and control processes
  • To process monthly accounts receivable functions including but not limited to:
    • Vendor statements with system transactions and resolve discrepancies.
  • To process all annual accounts receivable functions
  • Perform any other duties related to the Good Shepherd as directed by the Manager of Finance or delegate.

Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
