AZ / DZ BOOM OPERATOR | ONSITE
FULL TIME
Delivers material to job sites, inspects and maintains trucks, reports shortages and claims to operations manager. Assists in loading and storing materials. Boom Equipped Truck for unloading, hoisting and placement of material

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares, loads, and unloads the vehicle manually and/or using equipment supplied by the company.
    Reports all inventory, shipping and receiving discrepancies (include quantities, quality differences, damages and substitutions) and obtains proper authorization before receiving, shipping or delivering the order.
  • Plans and supervises truck loading, maximizing the use of the cargo area, distributing the cargo weight to meet regulations and safety acts of the M.T.O Supervises and assists placement of materials on truck.
    Secures the materials with supplied and appropriate equipment, preventing damages to materials and holding all materials safely in place throughout the course of all operations.
  • Plans delivery routes and exact delivery locations before leaving the workplace as per dispatchers schedules.
  • Maneuvers truck to the loading and unloading zone with signal person assistance. Drives the truck to the destination, alone or with assigned helpers, respecting the rules of security and the traffic regulations for highway vehicles.
  • Physically verifies the soil condition at the delivery site and judges if appropriate to support the weight of the vehicle in complete safety while entering, delivering material to, and leaving the site.
  • Covers merchandise with tarpaulins when required. When required means; if the driver is uncertain of possible bad weather, must cover the merchandise before leaving the work location. If bad weather occurs when on a delivery, must stop and cover the merchandise. At site arrival, uncovers the load, neatly folds the tarpaulin(s) (if applicable) and stores the tarpaulin(s) on the provided cradle. Stores all other cargo equipment in the provided toolbox. Repeats the securement procedures from one site to another.
  • Whenever guardrails or scaffolds are removed on delivery site by Morin Supply Inc to load drywall and other materials, it must be reinstalled. This must be done as soon the unit is loaded or when leaving the area unattended for any period of time while loading material. Failure to reinstall the guardrails constitute a safety hazard and a serious violation.
  • Delivers, places and/or supervises the placement of merchandise squarely and neatly in designated areas as per the customers instructions.
  • Collects payment for materials delivered on a C.O.D basis before the start of unloading. Obtains a customer signature for materials delivered on authorized credit accounts.
  • Keeps vehicle free from bottles, cans and other trash. Maintains the vehicles interior and exterior clean.
  • Driver is required to wear a hard hat and safety boots as designated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • The driver will not use obscene and/or vulgar language during working hours. The driver will be courteous to the customer at all times. Verbal and/or any other type of aggression is not permitted.
  • Drives a gas- or diesel-powered truck to carry materials on urban, rural, municipal, provincial and inter-provincial roads and highways. Executes all combinations of the following tasks; Starts up vehicle, accelerates, steers and stops under full control, respecting all highway traffic regulations at all times. Verifies, on a regular basis, brakes, tires, lights, and warning lights, warning sound devices and all other relevant items before leaving the premises.
  • Completes daily vehicle report as required by M.T.O, supplied by the company, immediately reporting any bad conditions or malfunctions. Verifies, fills and logs information concerning all fuel, oils, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid and other lubricants required by the truck.
  • Performs mandatory daily verification of the assigned vehicle and logs the information. Performs security verifications and inspections while on or off the road as per Ministry of Transportation. Immediately reports all deficiencies to the personnel manager.
  • Communicates by radio, arrivals, departures and destinations to designated personnel.
  • Notes in a logbook, supplied by the company, complete information in accordance with company, provincial and federal policies. Observes maximum weight laws prescribed for the assigned vehicle. Maintains all directional lights, brake lights and license plates free of dirt or debris.
  • Operates a boom installed on a delivery truck for unloading, hoisting and placement of materials. Slowly and smoothly, operates boom as per manufacturers instructions, observing the manufacturers restrictions for weight capacity etc. Thoroughly inspects the mainframe, articulation points, pins, bushings, hoses leaks and grease requirements of the boom as per manufacturers instructions and recommendations. Operates the boom, observing O.H.S.A regulations for industrial establishments.
  • Operates the crane with forks clear of ice at all times.
  • Inspects the construction site and its soil conditions for the safe use of the boom. Stays clear of electrical wires as per regulations.
  • Evaluates and decides upon an appropriate soil base, installs appropriate stabilizer pads and takes appropriate measures to ensure the stability of the truck and boom. Operates the boom with levers and pedals as per manufacturers instructions.
  • Employs a delivery helper as a signal person when and where it is necessary for overall safety and security.
  • Drives a combination of a truck and a trailer as per the Ministry of Transportations safety rules and regulations

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)

EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year Truck Driving / 1 year Boom experience

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION

  • Valid Boom operators license and endorsement required (MTCU 0-8 TON)
  • AZ or DZ License with clean record
  • Insurability for driving
    Clean MVR
  • Working at Heights certification
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driver abstract and insurable at a regular rate by the insurers of the employer.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to do arithmetic, read orders, write instructions and complete forms.
  • Communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment as prescribed in designated area

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, with manual dexterity and see acute depth perception and field of vision
  • Trunk rotation with 20 lbs. at arms length 180 degrees from side to side.
  • Bend, stoop or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis.
  • Reach over head to grasp materials
  • Strength (lift, carry, push and pull): Maximum lift, 100 lbs.; Frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work outside in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold.
  • Work with mechanical equipment on daily basis.
