POSITION SUMMARY:
St. Joseph's Home Care is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care in the home and community. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, the Chiropodist/Podiatrist provides specialized foot care services to support the health, mobility, and independence of our clientsparticularly older adults living at home, in long-term care (LTC), or in retirement home (RH) settings. This role helps prevent complications, promotes wellness, and enhances quality of life, particularly for clients with diabetes, circulation issues, or chronic foot conditions. The Chiropodist/Podiatrist will also need to accept referrals from foot care nurses and other health professionals as part of a collaborative approach to care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Independently assess, diagnos, and treat conditions affecting the foot and lower limb within the regulated scope of practice.
Provides routine and advanced foot care services, including nail and skin care, wound management, and orthotic assessment.
Develops individualized care plans based on assessment findings and client goals.
Educates clients and caregivers on foot health, footwear, and preventive practices.
Maintains accurate documentation and records using electronic medical software.
Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to support integrated client care.
Complies with all organizational policies, infection prevention protocols, and professional standards.
Participates in ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
For Chiropodist: Advanced Diploma in Chiropody from the Michener Institute (or equivalent)
For Podiatrist: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from an accredited U.S. institution
Current registration in good standing with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario
Certification in Basic and Advanced Foot Care (if applicable)
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
Proficient in EMR and Microsoft Office applications
Demonstrated ability to work independently in community settings
Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
Committed to client-centered care and health equity
Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with $1 million liability insurance
Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (completed within last 6 months)
