Rate of pay: $22.94* per hour (+16% in lieu of benefits) (*$23.63 per hour effective July 1, 2025)

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Term: May 5, 2025 August 22, 2025 (16 weeks)

Reports to: Executive Director

Our student life assistant develops resources and support services for newcomer students so that they can make the most of the CSUs services and community engagement activities. While the student life assistant receives direction and mentorship from the advocacy director on a day-to-day basis and can expect to interact and engage with our student leadership, they ultimately share a reporting relationship with the executive director.

Duties

In particular, the student life assistant performs the following job duties:

Student Support (60%)

  • Develops and executes orientation programs to help newcomers acclimate to university life and the Capilano Students Unions programs and resources.
  • Collaborate with all functional areas to ensure newcomers are informed about essential services, academic resources, and campus facilities.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops and programming to promote cultural exchange, intercultural understanding, and networking opportunities among international and domestic students.

Student Engagement (30%)

  • Actively encourages participation in Capilano Students Union programs and services by promoting events, activities, and resources available to students through a combination of in-person and social media outreach.
  • Working closely with the communications team, develops informative materials and resources to support international students involvement.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Works safely, in accordance with our health and safety program.
  • Protects the personal information of coworkers, students, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by resource staff or the executive director.

Qualifications

  • Six months or more experience in community-based work with newcomers.
  • Knowledgeable about post-secondary campus life.
  • Personable, professional, and well-organized.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
