WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - $17.20 per hour
  • When you'll work - This position is 35 hours per week for approximately 8 weeks; within a rotating schedule that includes days, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Assist with the completion of mental health assessments based on theory of crisis management including rapid response, risk assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, and referral to determine needs and level of risk
  • Apply mental health assessments to determine client needs, level of risk, discuss and determine recommended services and supports
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship to maximize the benefits of engagement between the staff person and the client
  • Provide short-term follow-up support to bridge the gap from referral to engagement with a longer-term support service as needed
  • Coordinate and facilitate, with client, linkages to recommended services and supports in the community
  • Advocate as necessary in order to facilitate access to services and supports with the objective of remediating immediate crisis situation
  • Provide information regarding resources found within both the broader addiction and mental health system and the community in general
  • Engage Emergency Services when it is determined that additional intervention is required
  • When appropriate, act as liaison with caregivers and/or support providers who are involved with the client to facilitate a coordinated approach to service provision
  • Provide health teaching and information regarding a variety of coping techniques and strategies, e.g. grounding, breathing techniques, self-care, nutrition, sleep hygiene, techniques to enhance overall well-being, the completion of crisis plans
  • Complete required documentation related to clients as per organizational standards
  • Participate as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Seek out and listen to input from other staff
  • Contribute to a positive team environment

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements

Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications:

  • Canada Summer Jobs requirements:
    • Will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
    • Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and am legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
    • (Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.)
  • Post-secondary education completed or in progress within social work, social services, mental health and/or addictions
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to attend work regularly

  • First Aid / CPR
  • Insurance adequate for transporting clients
  • Knowledge of mental health and recovery
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of computerized documentation methods
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Training
  • Health and safety knowledge
  • Ability to recognize and guide potential conflict situations
