To succeed in this position, you will be an experienced law clerk who can keep a busy professional on track. You will be highly organized, possess a matchless attention to detail and be able to coordinate and calendarize multiple deadlines. Finally, you will be a driven team player who can execute substantive clerk tasks such as proofreading, court filings and drafting legal documents from standard precedents.
A boutique IP firm with locations across Canada. We specialize in providing creative protection for our clients' IP portfolios in industries such as biotechnology, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, software and more. However, we aren't your typical law firm. We don't care much for the pomp and politics of larger firms. The Opportunity

  • Preparing and executing court filings (Federal and Provincial Courts);

  • Accurately preparing legal documents and correspondence with minimal direction;

  • Drafting legal documents and correspondence;

  • Monitoring and calendarizing activities/deadlines and liaising with necessary internal and external parties regarding same;

  • Monitoring emails and responding to client inquiries in a timely manner under the direction of a senior professional or partner;

  • Maintaining, organizing, and updating the litigation department's docket system of due dates for action and follow up; and

  • Other duties as required.

What You Will Bring

  • A post-secondary diploma or certificate as either a legal assistant, law clerk or paralegal;

  • 5+ years of litigation experience (Federal and/or Provincial Courts);

  • Aptitude in Adobe and the Microsoft Suite is required;

  • Experience in intellectual property an asset;

  • A high degree of accuracy;

  • Professional oral and written communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • The ability to coordinate and calendarize multiple deadlines, schedules and workflows;

  • Strong proofreading skills;

  • The ability to work alone and in a team environment;

  • The ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment; and

  • Bilingualism in both French and English would be an asset.
