Our Mission:Onward focuses on creating, renovating, and expertly managing properties to provide homes for over 3,000 individuals, predominantly with lower incomes. We work closely with over 50 social-service agencies to introduce residents who require support. Our buildings, spread across the city, cater to individuals, families, seniors, Indigenous persons, newcomers to Canada, and others who benefit from personalized agency support for various needs, including mental health, addictions, and mobility challenges.

What We Need from This Role
Reporting to the Manager, Building Services, the Plumber ensures the proper installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across Onward-owned and managed properties. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, from diagnosing and fixing plumbing issues to supporting unit turnovers and maintaining the safety and functionality of our properties. The Plumber role plays a vital role in upholding Onwards operational standards and supporting positive resident experiences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plumbing Maintenance and Repair
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and appliances, to ensure compliance with Onwards safety and operational standards.
- Diagnose and resolve plumbing issues such as leaks, clogs, and water pressure problems.
- Install or replace plumbing components during unit turnovers, renovations, or upgrades.
- Conduct regular checks of water heaters, drainage systems, and backflow devices to prevent issues.
- Maintain an inventory of plumbing supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring preparedness for all tasks.
Resident Support
- Respond to resident plumbing-related inquiries and maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Assist with addressing minor resident concerns and escalate complex issues when necessary.
Emergency and Safety Response
- Participate in plumbing emergencies, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Adhere to Onwards safety and security policies, identifying and mitigating potential plumbing-related hazards.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Building Services team to ensure seamless operations across the property portfolio.
- Support the Resident Services team as needed to align efforts with organizational goals.
What You Bring
To excel in this role, youll need:
- A clear criminal background check and vulnerable persons check.
- A valid drivers license and reliable vehicle.
- Two to three years of experience as a licensed plumber or in plumbing maintenance.
- Flexibility to accommodate varying work hours and a rotational on-call schedule.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms) repeatedly and remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Youll stand out if you also have:
- Experience working with a not-for-profit housing organization.
- Familiarity with Yardi or other property management software.
- Additional certifications in plumbing, pipefitting, or related trades.
Working Environment, Conditions, and Physical Demands
This role involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, often in varying weather conditions. Daily responsibilities include physical activities such as operating plumbing tools, navigating tight spaces, and managing time-sensitive challenges. Youll respond to occasional plumbing emergencies and ensuring the properties remain safe, functional, and comfortable for residents.

- A competitive salary
- Potential performance bonus: Up to 5%
