Who we need

Reporting to the Associate Chair, BBA Accounting Specialization, we are hiring a Sessional Faculty member to teach 2-3 accounting courses per term on-site. You will deliver existing, modern, engaging and fully developed course material. You will assess student performance and create a positive and inclusive learning environment aligned with our mission of championing student success.

Sessional Faculty are required to work on-site at the New Westminster Campus located at 88 6th Street beginning July 2025. Each session is 11 weeks long with classes running between 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and are assigned based on instructor availability.

As our new Sessional Faculty, you will:

  • Create a positive and engaging learning experience. You will teach a range of accounting courses—including, but not limited to, Intermediate Accounting I & II, Taxation, Advanced Financial Accounting, and Auditing. You will also integrate accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Syspro, or other ERP systems) into your course delivery to enhance real-world application.
  • Foster inclusive, engaged learning. You will implement inclusive teaching practices that value and respond to the diverse needs and experiences of learners. Your approach to assessment will include a variety of effective methods to support and measure student learning. Additionally, you will use the University's learning management system (Brightspace), classroom technologies, and digital resources to enrich the teaching and learning experience.
  • Elevate and optimize Accounting course development and delivery. You will contribute to curriculum development and course revisions to meet CPA program requirements and maintain articulation standards. You will collaborate with academic and student services, teaching and learning design teams, and program leadership to deliver quality education.
  • Support student success. You will offer academic advice and guidance to students by holding regular office hours to support learning outcomes. You will provide timely, constructive feedback and responses to correspondence.
  • Expand your knowledge. You will engage in reflective practice and ongoing professional development, leveraging information from various sources, including student evaluations of learning, to identify areas for growth as an educator. You will contribute to and learn from interactions within and outside of your department, participating in meetings and events as needed.
  • Leverage expertise. You will collaborate cross-functionally with academic and student services, teaching and learning design, program leadership, and student services to meet our high delivery and evaluation standards and ensure the integrity of the learning experience.
  • Contribute to our growth as an exceptional post-secondary institution. You will work with administrators and colleagues to advance your academic area and enhance the Yorkville community. You will contribute to promoting core values, distinctive capabilities and a positive culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness. You will uphold the integrity of academic and university policies and comply with provincial and federal legislation.

You have:

  • The education and academic background. You have an undergraduate degree, a CPA designation, and are an active member in good standing with CPA. Ideally you bring teaching experience at the post-secondary level, specifically in 3000-level accounting courses and in developing or revising accounting curriculum aligned with CPA accreditation standards.
  • The industry experience. You have professional accounting experience in an industry setting, demonstrating applied knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • The teaching skills. You are a dynamic teacher, excited to share your knowledge with your students. You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to respond to the needs of a classroom with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. You prioritize fostering an inclusive learning environment and are deeply committed to nurturing engagement and student success. Ideally, you have experience teaching international students.
  • The interpersonal skills. You can build trusting and influential relationships and nurture strong networks. You have a proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve common goals. You exercise mature decision-making, smoothly navigate conflict, practice discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • The technical skills. You are proficient with accounting software applications (QuickBooks, Syspro, or ERP systems), MS Office, LMS platforms and educational technologies.

Compensation: $5000 CAD per course. Each semester is 11 weeks long with the Faculty working 6 hours a week per course, including preparation time.
