The Paralegal will provide support to our in-house Legal Counsel at our office in downtown Vancouver.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares summaries and recommendations for counsel & paralegals.
- Assists counsel/paralegal with medium/high cases, with all aspects in advance of, and during proceedings before courts and tribunals; reviews transcripts; determines applicable legislation, jurisprudence and directives; drafts and prepares legal material as required.
- Reviews assigned documents; identifies anomalies and ensures compliance with the specific Acts/Regulations; processes large volume of documents, drafts legal documents; prepares reports; analyzes and assesses facts and determines best course of action.
- Demonstrates and explains workplace practices to other employees; oversees and monitors the work of consultants or students as required.
- Assist with the movement of cases through disciplinary or licensing suitability processes.
- Assist with developing procedures and template documentation.
- Assist with coordination of hearings and case management meetings, including organizing committees, preparing meeting material, meeting set-up, and arranging out-of-town travel and accommodations as required.
- Assist with Councils participation in Financial Services Tribunal appeals and judicial reviews.
- Liaise with Council members, staff, licenses, applicants, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with the handling and management of Councils responsibilities under applicable privacy legislation and in response to Freedom of Information requests.
- Assist with any other duties as Legal Counsel may require.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the capacity of a Paralegal within a regulatory body or within a law firm.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and graduate of a recognized Paralegal program
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of legal theories and principles to apply legal methods and techniques to conduct researchBroad knowledge of the Canadian legal system, administrative law, and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with high attention to detail
- Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
- Able to organize large volumes of work and handle competing priorities
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills
- Comfortable working with multiples stakeholders
- Experience with insurance and/or financial services is an asset
Minimum to Midpoint Salary range: $72,385 - $90,481
Upon hire, the new employee will be placed in a starting salary between the minimum and P50(midpoint) of the salary range. The P50 of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position.
