Position Title: Office Assistant, Canada Summer Jobs
Location: Kelowna, BC
Term: Full-time, Temporary (8 weeks)
Reports To: Manager, Healthcare Operations
Salary: $17.85/hour
Start Date: 5th May, 2025
I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities
This funded position through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, will afford a student the opportunity to gain experience and learn practical skills associated with working in an organization that provides professional vision rehabilitation therapy.
VLRC is looking for an energetic, technology proficient individual who will assist and support the British Columbia Management Team, Specialists within British Columbia, and the Registration and Intake Team in British Columbia, with administrative tasks.
II. Essential Functions
The position entails, but is not limited to the following general responsibilities:
•As directed by management, work with VLRC staff on administrative tasks.
•Coordinates schedules and facilitates program development with the team.
•General office and administrative duties.
•Scanning and inputting of client documentation into client database.
•Complete evaluation at the end of placement to provide feedback on experience and provide a detailed report on activities/projects completed.
•Assist with scheduling request from Specialists within BC.
•Assist with sending our Welcome Packages to new clients within BC.
•Support welcoming clients into the Office and notifying Specialist of client's arrival.
•Support other staff within BC on special projects.
•Other related duties as required.
Relationships:
•Student will be responsible for relationships with VLRC staff and clients.

III. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
· Previous experience with individuals with vision loss preferred.
· Excellent computer skills.
· Professional, articulate, confident presenter.
· Superior interpersonal skills, excellent public speaking and writing skills, and effective communicator among a diverse audience.
· Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and independently.
· Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Flexible schedule.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Criminal record check will be a condition of employment.
Work Environment:
· Student will receive VLRC orientation.
· Student will be trained in Sighted Guide.
· Student will receive overview of Health & Safety for VLRC and training.
· Increased knowledge of issues relating to persons who are blind or partially sighted.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the funding associated with this position, you must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Protection Act
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible.
