Summary

St. Margaret's School (SMS) IS Western Canada's only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and WSNE Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 712). St. Margarets School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.

Reporting to the Chief Operations and Financial Officer the Information Technology (IT) Assistant Manager is responsible for a range of duties involving the support, approval, and implementation of all computer hardware, software and operation systems.

The primary role is to ensure the smooth and effective running of the extended Information Technology infrastructure and systems while also performing a variety of technical duties related to the support and maintenance of network systems and equipment at SMS. The IT Assistant Manager will also assume some help desk responsibilities and complete various IT related projects as directed by the COFO.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with the COFO to plan and review a framework comprising of IT procedures, practices, and procurement strategies.

Setup and maintenance of the IT infrastructure encompassing telecommunication systems and networks, internet connectivity links and networks, computers/hardware, software systems, and applications

Identify IT requirements and life cycle of devices such as desktops, laptops, projectors, cell phones, computer peripherals and networking equipment.

Coordinate event management and structures relating to the school (Assemblies, Drills, Audio-video activities).

Propose plans for the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development and support of all hardware and software based on department needs.

Evaluate the overall effectiveness of network operations and existing technologies.

Provide expertise and training to employees, students, and parents on all IT issues.

Coordinate the IT infrastructure to ensure alignment with strategic and business priorities.

Documentation, technical writing, report generation

Helpdesk support and monitoring

Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship with users, vendors and other related groups.

Accountable for the delivery of all Information Technology services and assets throughout the school.

Network administration including network design, integrity, security, disaster recovery, and federation service management.

SMS hardware and software systems, application servers, internet, backup and recovery systems, router, Firewalls, LAN, VLAN/WAN management, and phone systems.

Provide inputs to COFO for school-wide technology budget, projects, and priorities.

Supervise IT team, as directed.

All other duties as required.

Required Education & Experience

  • College diploma (or similar) in Computer Science or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the Information Technology field.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience in an independent school IT services will also be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of technology trends and capabilities. Expert knowledge of the following technologies:
Domain configuration and management for modern Windows Servers
Switches, hubs, and firewall configuration Microsoft 365 with local active directory syncing
Workstation/laptop management for both Windows and MacOS LAN/VLAN administration Share Point administration
IT Ticketing and helpdesk software Camera and security systems
Backup and recovery software Network Virtualization
Anti-virus and MDR solutions DNS servers, DHCP
G-Suite administration Server monitoring software
Office 365 administration Wireless technologies
Network security Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of network and systems administration in a Windows and cloud-based environment Demonstrated experience managing complex information systems infrastructure, ideally in an educational setting with an understanding of mission critical systems for education Proven experience managing IT Tickets triaging issues, setting SLAs and examining reoccurring problems for improvements to be made Ability to understand classroom and business issues and opportunities and translate them into technology solutions. Highly motivated and well organized. Ability to adapt and seek solutions from a variety of perspectives. Highly developed analytical and documentation skills. Must possess strong interpersonal, leadership and customer service skills.

Work Conditions

Regular hours of work, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hour per week.

Overtime as required.

Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment.

Fast-paced environment.

Sitting for long periods of time.

Lifting and/or moving up to 20lbs may be required.
