Think of this as a business, management, and hotel operations internship on rocket fuel.
Howdy, my name is Ryan Urzada and I am the owner and CEO of a "not so little" 200-room, full-service hotel you may have heard of called The Atlas and I need a right hand.
I am looking for someone good, or wait, let me re-phrase, someone GREAT to work directly with me to handle a bit of everything encompassed in our hotel operations. Not just administrative tasks, not just duties related to a specific department or area of the hotel. When I tell you I'm looking for someone to be willing and able to help me in all areas of the hotel's operations, I mean it!
Youll need to:
- Be a fast learner
- Have flexible availability
- Be resourceful and okay with making the occasional mistake
- Thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
- Be open to mentorship and learning on the fly
So, what exactly will you be doing? Like I said, a bit of everything. But to give you a general idea, your role will include:
- Administrative support: replying to emails, managing my schedule, organizing travel, dropping gifts in VIP rooms, and sitting in on a lot of meetings.
- Operations experience: responding to guest complaints, handling injuries and incidents, supporting tough conversations, and learning the day-to-day grind of running a full-service hotel.
- Leadership training: learning how to measure performance, build systems, lead teams, and plan for both short- and long-term projects. Youll be exposed to decisions most people only see at the executive or ownership level.
And some days? Youll be pitching in wherever the biggest fire is burning. Thats the job.
If you're successful in joining me working in this position, here's a bit of what you can expect to take away from this experience whether it be to grow your career to the next level or embark on that important transition from student to employee.
Youll learn how to systematize, measure and hold entire hotel departments accountable. You'll learn about building culture in an organization. The importance of building and maintaining processes and systems. Handling issues both big and small and gaining a glimpse into how to plan for both short-termand long-term business initiatives, ideas and major projects. The candidate that Im looking for is ideally fresh out of hotel/hospitality management school and looking for a management position.
Now, let me be clear, this isnt a management position; its a support position where I will teach you everything I know about hotel management.
I hopethat this will either result in a natural transition for you to join our management team after a couple of years or that you'll be equipped to easily embark on additional growth opportunities in management or hospitality when the right opportunity presents itself.
