Salary: $140,000

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Rotating Equipment Supervisor to join our Maintenance team at the Burnaby Refinery. This key leadership role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable execution of maintenance activities related to mechanical rotating equipment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with fellow supervisors, planners, schedulers, contractors, and the Reliability Team to ensure high standards in asset performance, team development, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

Safety & Reliability Leadership:

  • Lead by example to foster a strong safety culture through visible, active participation in safety programs (Loss Prevention, Human Performance, IIF, and OE principles).
  • Champion the use of Safety Loss Analysis in the field and coach teams on safe work practices.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses and lead daily toolbox meetings.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings, ensuring action items are completed and progress is communicated.
  • Manage incident investigations within your area of accountability and ensure lessons learned are shared and applied.
Team & Work Management
  • Supervise a team of 13 Millwrights and oversee various contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate and prioritize daily maintenance tasks and manage emergent work effectively.
  • Ensure worker safety and productivity through active field presence and oversight.
  • Support team development through coaching, mentoring, and regular performance reviews (quarterly for probationary employees, semi-annually for others).
  • Support and build an inclusive work culture by fostering a respectful, collaborative, and positive environment where all team members feel valued and supported.
  • Participate in turnaround and project planning, including resource forecasting and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain recruitment, training, and development plans to support long-term team capability.
Maintenance & Reliability Stewardship
  • Collaborate with Reliability, Planning, and Operations teams to reduce downtime and resolve chronic equipment issues.
  • Provide input to the 3-week maintenance plan and adjust priorities as needed.
  • Contribute to long-term maintenance strategies that enhance refinery performance.
Administrative & Financial Oversight
  • Assist in managing the Routine Maintenance Budget, ensuring effective use of overtime and resources.
  • Approve timesheets, purchase orders, invoices, and inventory additions in alignment with budget and operational needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports: 13 Millwrights
  • Indirect Reports: Various contractors (as required)
  • Conduct formal performance reviews and support career development planning.
  • Champion a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture focused on continual improvement.

Requirements:

Required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with rotating machinery in a petrochemical or industrial environment.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a unionized work setting.
  • Millwright BC Trade Qualification and/or Mechanical Engineering Degree.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred
  • Experience with JD Edwards and SAP systems.
  • Supervisory experience in an industrial petrochemical facility.
  • Background in developing and delivering technical training or team development programs.
