Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all employees and contractors within the workplace by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and protocols. This role involves conducting H&S site visits, ensuring successful completion of the WSIB excellence program, effectively implementing the GDI H&S management system and ensuring compliance with the OHSA & regulations:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure successful completion of the WSIB excellence program
  • Effectively implement and ensure compliance with all GDI H&S policies, procedures and requirements
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure
  • Organize and deliver health & safety training as required (such as H&S orientation, WHIMS, site specific training etc
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, and report findings.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all safety-related incidents and compliance reports head office as required
  • Conduct H&S investigations for lost time incidents, and follow corrective/preventative actions to completion
  • Review incident trends and provide recommendations
  • Develop & distribute incident alerts to ensure findings and lessons learned are effectively communicated to all regional operations teams
  • Ensure modified duties are being offered to injured employee and facilitate return to work programs
  • Coordinate WSIB RTW specialist support when required & act as a point of contact
  • Cultivate a culture that promotes inclusion, innovation, productivity, and collaboration.
  • Build strong relationships and effectively communicate with internal and external points of
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations, including staying up to date with amendments, and making recommendations for their implementation.
  • Provide support with the completion of field level risk assessments, workplace inspections, job hazard analysis and H&S requirements
  • Maintain site H&S boards, ensuring all posting requirements are met, eyewash stations and first aid kits are present
  • Provide support with the development of safe work procedures
  • Responsible for monitoring employee and subcontractor adherence to GDI's H&S manual, program and requirements
  • Coordinate and schedule certification training such as fall Protection, CPR/First Aid, LOTO, etc
  • Provide site support as required.
  • Collaborate and coordinate projects with the GDI Canada health & safety team
  • Actively participate during monthly safety meetings
  • Promote site participation in quarterly JHSC meetings and encourage participation
  • Conduct site toolbox talks, safety briefing and safety moments as required
  • Provide support to operations and other departments in regards to health & safety items
  • Ensure continuous improvement by researching H&S information and provide recommendations to improve the H&S system and minimize hazards and injuries
  • Provide H&S support and conduct training with managerial positions
  • Provide support with compliance platforms and audits (gathering documentation, coordinating communication, site preparation, audit participation)
  • Assist with all MOL interactions in the respective region
  • Act a liaison with third parties in relation to health & safety items

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Three to five years' experience in occupational health and safety.
  • Experience with successfully implementing the WSIB health and safety excellence program would be an asset
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and regulations
  • Experience with WSIB claims and RTW
  • Strong organizational & project management skills
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and timelines
  • Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to commute to sites independently within the designated region
  • Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of concrete formwork, demolition, and heavy civil work is an asset.
  • Enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to sites (driving distance) as required.
  • Office environment to conduct work tasks
