About Hospice Mississauga

Founded in 1985, Hospice Mississauga is Ontario's largest community hospice and a recognized Centre of Excellence. We provide no-cost, compassionate, person-centered care to individuals with life-limiting illness and those who love them. Our services, from grief and bereavement counselling to reiki and art therapy, support nearly 4,000 individuals and families annually.

We're a pillar of the healthcare continuum and the heart of compassionate care in Mississauga.

As we expand our reach and prepare to open the city's first 12-bed Hospice Centre, this new role will enhance our engagement of current and new supporters to help raise the resources and revenue in support of our vision.

About the Opportunity:

The Coordinator, Annual Giving and Events is a key new role in our lean and mighty team that bridges the span of an emerging events and annual giving portfolio. It is an ideal role for an individual who enjoys a combination of fundraising activities but may have a specialized focus in either events or annual giving to help anchor their portfolio.

This role helps lead our community engagement and giving strategies with specific focus on the following areas:

Annual Giving (35%):

  • Providing support through the proactive review, identification and cultivation of existing donors and development of conversion tactics for new donors

  • Crafting emails and communications, coordinating stewardship activities and reports, and providing support with creating and deploying direct mail and other solicitations and campaigns

Events (40%):

  • Identifying opportunities and assisting with the crafting of solicitations for sponsorships, gift in kind and other resource needs

  • Supporting the planning, logistics and day of event execution

  • Developing and supporting third party and partnership events such as Hike, Bed Race, Golf, Gala and Holiday campaign along with other micro events for stewardship, and recognition activities

Database and Administration (20%):

  • Supporting the Manager, Resource Development in ensuring gifts are entered and tracked appropriately and reports are available as needed.

Volunteer Management (5%):

  • Reviewing volunteer applications, engaging in first connections and leading onboarding, along with ongoing administrative duties.

Other Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors, local businesses, employee groups, service clubs, and event organizers across Mississauga

  • Identifying, soliciting, and activating new revenue opportunities that reflect the diversity of our community and align with our values

  • Working with staff, volunteers, and ambassadors to execute creative donor experiences and events

  • Building and managing a donor portfolio using tools like Virtuous; track engagement and moves management strategies

  • Collaborating with Marketing and Communications and other program teams to create compelling, donor-centric messaging and materials

  • Representing Hospice Mississauga at events, tours, cheque presentations, and community meetings

  • Contributing to the development of peer-to-peer, digital-first, and community-based fundraising campaigns

  • Promoting a culture of philanthropy within the community and across internal teams

This role is anticipated to evolve over time as the organizations revenue and scope grows along with our services.

With a strong focus on equity, compassion, and community, you'll help shape meaningful giving experiences for donors while amplifying our message: that everyone deserves dignity, comfort, and choice at end of life.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising, or related sales or marketing experiences

  • Hospice experience considered an asset

  • Familiarity with the Mississauga community and Peel Region.

  • Proven ability to build authentic relationships, solicit donations, and steward supporters

  • Demonstrated experience with community or special events including strategy, planning and execution

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with comfort presenting to diverse audiences

  • Persuasive communication skills

  • Experience working with databases (Virtuous) and fundraising platforms (FundraiseUP, CanadaHelps, CharityCan) and workflow systems (Monday, ChatGPT and others)

  • High EQ and cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • Task drive with proven time management, organization, and detail-orientation

  • Thrives in creating superb customers experiences

  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle (some evening and weekend work required)

  • Familiarity and experience with direct mail

  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders across departments, ensuring every engagement reflects our mission of compassion, advocacy, and equity
