The Opportunity
The Architectural Summer Intern helps research and prepare architectural drawings using special drafting software. They are key supports of the design team and will help contribute to turning the design ideas of architects and engineers into practical, workable buildings. They may also have the opportunity to assist with research related to building codes, test building materials for suitability, calculate cost estimates, build models based on architects' designs, and participate in site visits to gain understanding of construction processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of architectural documentation under the guidance of senior team members
- Contributes to company and project goals of excellence in design, execution and sustainability
- Develop detailed sketches generated by project architects
- Learn about and apply applicable codes and ordinances to design work
- Use appropriate graphic and modelling techniques to help communicate solutions
Skills & Qualifications
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Architecture or a similar field
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a related field an asset
- Basic knowledge of architectural design documentation, detailing, building materials and codes, construction techniques
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit and/or Microsoft Office Suite an asset
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and contribute to projects
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a team
- Strong organizational skills and a proactive work ethic
Compensation
The hourly wage range for this position is $25 to $30 per hour, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
