Roles and Responsibilities:
- To plan and meet the occupancy schedule and construction of the assigned project
- Prepare an overall construction schedule
- To co-operate fully with a Leadership and site staff in getting the job completed
- To distinguish between good and poor workmanship and be able to enforce the design requirements, the scope of works and trade contracts with dedication and conviction
- To plan, co-ordinate and manage effectively any given project. To be familiar with all contract drawings and scrutinize
- To plan, co-ordinate and manage effectively any given project. To be familiar with all contract drawings and Trade Contracts and Scopes of Work. Scrutinize errors, changes and omissions from suppliers and Trade Contractors to meet our obligations to the client.
- To work with Trade Contractors to ensure they are doing their work in the proper sequence and to the schedule
- To be trained in all aspects of safety and conduct safety meetings to ensure a safe and productive project. Be familiar and competent with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and have on site an up-to-date copy of the legislation
- To communicate in an effective and professional manner to Owners, Architects, and Consultants and instill in each a sense of confidence and competence about himself, his team and the company. Always be conscious of positive public relations.
- To be familiar with union agreements and stipulations where applicable
- To be on the alert for potential problems both on the project site and in the design and construction of the project. Once a problem is detected, all related personnel should be alerted immediately and a solution reached before the problem becomes critical.
- To be an effective manager of personnel.
- To have a sound working knowledge of materials and their characteristics and properties under certain conditions.
Qualifications:
- Civil Engineering and/or Construction Management Degree
- 5 years experience as a lead Site Superintendent in low-rise construction projects is mandatory
- Excellent team and communication skills with ability to lead teams
- Solid understanding of specifications, construction methods and procedures
- Knowledge of key principles involved in project administration
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)
