Social Worker

The role of the Alzheimer Society of Toronto is to offer support, information, and education to people with dementia, their families, and their caregivers, to increase public awareness of dementia, to promote research, and to advocate for services that respect the dignity of the individual.

The Social Worker position offers therapeutic support, information, education, and referral sources to persons with dementia and their family caregivers. Social Workers also offer case consultation to professionals in the community.


What Youll Be Doing:

  • Utilize social work processes during 1-1 interactions to assist individuals persons with dementia, caregivers, and professionals with dementia-related concerns and develop problem-solving plans/approaches.
  • Facilitate and manage dementia-associated support groups.
  • Facilitate educational workshops for care partners and people living with dementia as needed.
  • Work within a team to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve training sessions, support groups, speaking engagements, and the counseling process.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in dementia research and care, as well as relevant services in the community.
  • Actively participate in fulfilling the Societys mandate, including maintaining records, statistics, and assisting with program development.
  • Act as a staff liaison to volunteer committees, as assigned.
  • Liaise with the community to increase awareness of the Societys mandate and services.
  • Support/supervise social work field placement students, as needed.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required


Who You Are:

  • Bachelors Degree of Social Work is Required; Master of Social Work is considered an asset
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers is required
  • Minimum of three years experience in full-time employment in counseling or a related field is required.
  • Work experience with clients diagnosed with dementia and/or their families is considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of Alzheimers disease and other dementias
  • Strong Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Zoom is required
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and work with the team to accomplish goals
  • Evening, weekend and off-site work required
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to speak languages other than English is an asset
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Access to a vehicle is an asset
