POSITION SUMMARY
As a key member of the Electrical New Product Development (NPD) team, you will be accountable for completion of engineering design tasks and projects of electrical and PLC programming nature, from concept to implementation in production. This will include all related design activities, calculations, communications, drawings, and bill of material.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Executes and completes engineering design tasks and project assignments in support of prototyping/testing & product development activities per NPD product development processes.
- Coordinates own tasks to ensure deadlines are met per project schedule and applicable lead times. Includes maintaining task status, task progress and communicating risks to task scope change.
- Performs engineering calculations and analysis to ensure compliance with design criteria and all applicable standards and regulations.
- Checks engineering documents, instructions to service, shop floor instructions and other documents as authorized.
Common functions with other NPD Roles:
Responsible for:
- Creation of engineering designs that meet customer specifications, technical summaries, other contract documents and any applicable standards or industry best practices. Ensures designs meet performance, buildability, design efficiency and align with outlined design philosophy.
- Completion of controlled testing of components and system to meet contractual obligations, vendor requirements (SAA), ensure product reliability, performance and verify component fit.
- Completing engineering drawings and to release documents in accordance with engineering procedures.
- Interacting with suppliers (which may include end customer) on design-related issues during development that may require an end goal of supplier application approval.
- Performance of project design reviews.
- Creating other technical documents such as instructions to service, Shop Floor Instructions as authorized.
Supports:
- Documentation of the appropriate use of supplier's product for the application from review of supplier's requirements and intended operation and developmental discussions for fitness of use in the New Flyer product including supplier application approval and any associated testing and customer configuration audits.
- Completion of product launch integration to production, quality assurance, customer service support and other departments as directed.
Consults on:
- Insuring product requirements and technical content are developed and maintained in accordance with specifications.
- Bid documents such as customer specifications, technical summaries, supplier quotations, approved equals and others are reviewed for appropriate interpretation and compliance.
- Performance of applicable FMEA and Hazard Analysis exercises.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist
- Three or more years of design experience and demonstrating ability to achieve performance objectives.
- Proficient in designs involving multiplexing systems for heavy-duty vehicles, CAN bus networks, and sensor interfacing.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with engineering analysis tools.
- Working experience in electrical integration of automotive systems for heavy-duty buses and coaches, including communication between various vehicle subsystems, and compliance with automotive standards such as SAE J1939, ISO 11898 and ISO 26262.
- Strong multitasking skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative problem-solving abilities and a strong sense of teamwork.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work independently.
- Ability to manage projects efficiently and effectively is an asset.
- Be able to travel as needed
