The Opportunity:

The Security & Loss Prevention (“SLP”) Specialist role is focused on supporting Parkland's retail and commercial business spanning Canadian operations. Scope will include:
  • Process Development & Documentation: work cross functionally to develop / clarify processes, achieve alignment, document and implement.
  • Project Support: lead projects with internal and external stakeholders.
    • E.g., facilitate drive-off reviews with operations to uncover opportunities for loss reduction.
    • E.g.2., coordinate the collection of data from Ops and with the support of external vendors to understand the security equipment landscape. Subsequently, identify gaps and budget to address.
    • E.g.3., streamline the forms on the ThinkLP (“TLP”) case management portal to provide operators with a more efficient process for submitting incidents.
  • Communications: develop content and facilitate distribution of internal and external communications.
  • Training: develop bulletins, training materials for internal and external Ops.
  • Case Investigation and Audits: perform incident investigations and auditing. Incidents span site-level activity, drive-offs, Journie membership misuse, etc.
This position supports the drive towards loss prevention and a proactive approach towards safe operations. A big emphasis will be placed on building and maintaining strong relationships with cross-functional business partners (internal and external) and shifting focus from reaction to prevention through process / tool and process development while establishing a training center of excellence. This role is also subject to supporting other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

Process & Project Management

Process Development

  • Oversee process development for SLP-related processes.
  • Work closely with Operations, Facilities & Infrastructure, HSE, Legal, Training and other teams to develop, document, and roll out processes that are focused on security prevention.
  • E.g., develop a consistent, national process for criminal background checks with retailer applications.
  • E.g.2., align with Operations and Legal on process to allow retailers CMS camera footage access. Identify risks, mitigation steps and process for granting access.
  • E.g.3., work cross-functionally to clarify responsibilities for how Parkland manages missing child alerts.
Project Management
  • Coordinate projects focused on reducing losses and shifting to a prevention-focused, analytically oriented organization.
  • E.g., perform drive-off Ops region reviews to uncover opportunities that will reduce losses such as prepay for select pumps and missing cameras.
  • E.g.2., lead projects with SLP vendors such as upgrading the TLP portal to streamline the case submission process for operators.
Innovation
  • Maintain relationships with SLP service vendors e.g., ThinkLP, I3, SAS, etc.
  • Work with vendors on innovation opportunities within the SLP software space.
  • Support pulling together business cases for piloting solutions that could benefit PKI from a security perspective and beyond (e.g., merch via AI detected patterns).
Communications, Training & Stewardship Communications
  • Develop internal and external communications to share security incident learnings and support prevention / reoccurrence.
  • Work cross functionally with the HSE Team and Programs Team to ensure alignment with safety protocols and the operational standards and norms (OSN).
  • Facilitate content development, translation (via PKI's translation service), distribution, and posting to the Gateway portal.
Training
  • Support the goal of establishing the SLP Team as a training center of excellence (“COE”) for security and loss prevention.
  • Develop monthly bulletins for retail and cardlock operators on pertinent topics to support safe and secure operations.
Stewardship
  • Develop monthly SLP reports for Ops leaders summarizing security incidents and presenting solutions / proposals for consideration.
  • Develop stakeholder presentations and facilitate cross-functional engagement.
  • Ensure fraud metrics are qualitatively captured and shared across the organization – KPI clarity is fundamental for driving down fraud exposure.
Case Investigation & Audits Case Management
  • Support Parkland's SLP case management and station oversight with the overarching goal of reducing exposure in the following areas:
    • Physical security
    • Drive-offs
    • Loyalty fraud
    • HSE related security events
    • Etc.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance / Economics, Criminology and Policing, or a related discipline.

Requirements:

  • Two or more years of relevant work experience the security / loss prevention / fraud space and or retail / commercial fuelling operations.
  • Highly adaptable with an appetite for growth; detail oriented and organized to navigate a cross functional and collaborative environment with competing priorities.
  • Strong work and education experience, demonstrating organizational, communication and analytical skills, a proven record of positive business results, and an appetite for an increased level of responsibility.
  • Ability to coordinate projects starting with defining and aligning stakeholders on scope, establishing key milestones, and seeing the project through to completion.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Visio
  • Security personnel licensing authorizing you to be a security service worker in Canada.
  • Experience working with ThinkLP / SalesForce software and security streaming software.
  • Bilingualism (French and English), oral and written, is an asset.
