Your tasks at a glance

  • You take detailed patient histories, gathering and documenting general medical and ophthalmic information.
  • You perform and record all pre- and post-operative testing to ensure accurate patient assessments (Tonometry, OCT, Visual Fields, IOL Master, Corneal Topography, Lensometry, Refraction, Pupil Assessment, and other Ancillary Testing).
  • You accurately document the ophthalmologist's examination findings in the patient's medical record.
  • You ensure the patient understands the diagnosis, treatment plans, surgery options, and test requirements.
  • You educate patients on care plans, procedures, and post-operative instructions as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  • You maintain clinic equipment and exam room supplies, ensuring a clean and organized environment.

A clear view of your assets

  • You have excellent communication skills in English.
  • You have experience in an eye-care environment.
  • You are motivated to learn how to use various diagnostic and testing tools.
  • You are meticulous and can document information with exceptional accuracy.
  • You are comfortable with computers, technology, and Microsoft 365 (knowledge of EMR systems is an asset).
  • Your certification in one of these programs will be considered an asset:
    • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT),
    • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT),
    • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA),
    • or Certified Ophthalmic and Optometric Assistant (from SAIT or NAIT).
