Reporting to the Childcare Supervisor and Childcare Coordinators, the Childcare Professional and Curriculum Support position will foster an inclusive early learning and childcare environment that supports children's development. This role works closely with team members to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and provides float coverage for planning, breaks and absences. This position also acts as an instructional partner to the team, supporting curriculum development, and coaching educators through the implementation of YW's program plan, Flight: Alberta Early Learning and Childcare Framework and Spark: Culturally Responsive Early Learning and Childcare in Alberta.
The schedule is 40 hours per week, with availability required between 7:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., and occasional evening and weekend work. The role involves lifting children up to 30 pounds, interacting with them at their physical level (bending, sitting on the floor, moving, and playing), and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide attuned and responsive day-to-day care, guidance and programming for children aged 0-4 in a safe, secure and consistent environment.
- Implement programming that supports child development through play.
- Interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner and encourage their involvement in outdoor and indoor activities.
- Demonstrate flexibility and provide care in a manner that is sensitive to individual child differences, interests and needs; adjust care and tailor activities to meet those interests and needs.
- Maintain an understanding of the Canada Food Guidelines (CFG) and verify that meals and snacks are in compliance with the Canada Food Guide.
- Oversee meal and snack time activities; provide diapering and toileting support.
- Maintain awareness of allergies and emergency medications; administer medication when necessary, in accordance with medication administration policies.
- Support educators in providing a safe, welcoming and engaging environment; help keep rooms orderly and clean.
- Maintain daily attendance records in accordance with program and licensing standards.
- Understand and adhere to the province of Alberta Child Care licensing regulations, the City of Calgary fire regulations, Alberta Health Services regulations, and the YW Kid's program plan (as approved by Alberta Childcare Licensing).
- Support with onboarding and training of new staff, practicum students and volunteers.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Engage in regular supervision meetings with supervisor and/or coordinators.
- Lead Flight: Alberta Early Learning and Care Framework implementation in classrooms; develop and plan centre wide programming including recreational activities, outdoor plans and special activities.
- Serve as a pedagogical partner to educators; guide and support educators in exploring emergent curriculum, Flight framework, and other daily practices in alignment with the program's values and plans.
- Provide dynamic support, active observation and constructive feedback to team members to improve emergent curriculum implementation, developmental activities, safety and cleanliness.
- Lead through change by inspiring others, providing clear expectations to staff, demonstrating resilience and role modelling professional behavior.
- Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success.
- Understand YW Calgary's Health, Safety and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices and protocols; ensure work is performed safely and in alignment with YW's HS&W culture.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Early Learning and Childcare Diploma or Equivalent
- Early Learning and Childcare Certificate Level 3
- MacEwan Flight Course ECDV 100 or Supporting Curriculum (SCP) Certificate
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing Flight: Alberta Early Learning and Care Framework.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a Childcare Centre.
- Knowledge of the Province of Alberta's childcare regulations and Alberta Health Standards for Childcare
- Decision making skills that demonstrate a strong practical and theoretical understanding of child development.
- Experience with leading or coaching an Early Childhood Educator team is an asset.
- Approaches work and others through the lens of equity, diversity, and inclusivity and skilled at creating an environment of trust, respect, innovation.
- Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to mitigate risk and react quickly to ensure the safety of children.
- Clear Police Information Check including the Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Intervention Record Check.
- Certification in Alberta Family Wellness Initiatives Core Brain Story and First Aid CPR Level C upon hire.
