Your Job

We are seeking a mid-level Quality Engineer to join our Quality team at our Pickering, Ontario facility. This role is responsible for leading quality assurance activities related to engineering validation, inspection, compliance, and non-conformance management in accordance with project-specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), company practices, and international codes and standards.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Regulatory compliance:
    • Ensure all processes and quality requirements align with ISO 9001 and ASME BPV Code Sections I, VIII, and B31.1/B31.3 piping standards.
  • Quality Planning & Documentation:
  • Analyze project and bid specifications to define quality scope and requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of project-specific Quality Management Plans and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation in alignment with project schedules.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance:
  • Oversee and enforce adherence to project ITPs, ensuring all QA activities are executed in compliance with project requirements and company standards.
  • Maintain proper change control procedures in accordance with company quality management systems.
  • Support internal, external, and third-party audits, assisting the Quality Manager in audit preparation and execution.
  • Technical Review & Engineering Validation:
  • Review and verify engineering 3D models, technical drawings, and documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and Eco-Tec standards.
  • Conduct engineering sign-off on critical mechanical components.
  • Define and document quality standards for systems, equipment, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments and project stakeholders.
  • Inspection & Non-Conformance Management:
  • Perform welding inspections (pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld) in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Conduct dimensional, visual, and coating inspections to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Verify material identity and compliance prior to manufacturing and assembly activities.
  • Inspect non-conforming parts (NCRs), assess suitability for rework, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review welding documentation, including Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQs), Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
  • Conduct in-process audits on the shop floor to ensure procedural compliance.
  • Collaborate with Materials Management to approve and release received materials for production.
  • Health, Safety & Continuous Improvement:
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, reports, and quality performance data.
  • Participate in training programs to maintain and enhance technical skills.
  • Other Responsibilities:
  • Support the Quality Manager & Quality Supervisor with additional quality-related tasks as required.
  • Maintain flexibility to work overtime as needed.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited or recognized post-secondary institution – or equivalent working experience.
  • +2 years of quality engineering experience in the construction of pressure vessels in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Welding Expertise: Strong understanding of welding processes, including Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
  • Metrology & Inspection Proficiency: Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments, such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, optical inspection equipment, gauges, and other quality inspection tools.
  • Technical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read, interpret, and validate manufacturing engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles.
  • Software Competency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Certifications: AWS-CWI (Certified Welding Inspector), CSWIP 3.1, or equivalent. ASNT Level II certification in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Visual Testing (VT) is preferred.
  • Process Control Knowledge: Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques for quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Specialized Training: Additional training in welding engineering, weld inspection, or welding qualification standards is considered an asset.
