The PV System Drafter II will be responsible for drafting & design deliverables required to support the development, installation, and operation of solar photovoltaic systems across various market applications. The PV System Drafter II will prepare technical drawings, based on electrical calculations by others, and any additional drafting-related details required for system permitting, interconnection, installation, and operation.

The PV System Drafter II will report directly to the Manager, Design

Responsibilities

  • Complete the drafting and organization of code compliant PV solar and energy storage system drawing sets and packages, including but not limited to conceptual layouts, single/three-line diagrams, Issued for Permit (IFP), Issued for Construction (IFC), and As-Built plan sets for mid-scale PV Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
  • Collaborate with Designers and Engineers to produce complete photovoltaic and/or battery storage project designs including, but not limited to: ground mounted installations, rooftop installations, carports and parking decks.
  • Update and maintain the design criteria database for ease of replication within specific energy markets, utilities, and municipalities.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in drafting processes and contribute to development of new tools, templates, or processes to aid in streamlining the throughput of the drafting and design team.
  • Develop new blocks as necessary to support changing equipment choices and unique installation details and organize blocks and other tools for use across the design team.
  • Provide drafting support, 3D-renderings and site plans to all cross-functional departments including originations, finance, development, and deployment.
  • Coordinate with external engineering partners when required for civil, structural, geotechnical, & electrical details, specifications, stamping, etc. to ensure plan sets satisfy local and federal codes as well as established industry best practices regarding safety and constructability.
  • Communicate clearly in writing, through drawings, in remote meetings, and in-person.
  • Produce accurate, precise, complete, and compliant drawing packages within agreed upon timelines and clearly communicate milestones and progress in daily and weekly updates to the team, primarily during 9am-5pm working hours, Eastern Time (UTC -4 / UTC -5).

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years minimum drafting/design experience in Solar Photovoltaics
  • Preferred experience in drafting large commercial scale projects, producing extensive permit and construction drawing sets, and managing revisions and collaborations with outside parties.
  • Highly proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with other Autodesk products.Ability to keep software up to date, manage team accounts, explore new tools and troubleshoot drafting and plotting issues to find workarounds where required.
  • General knowledge of permitting requirements for solar plan sets in the United States.
  • Proficient use of Excel and other MS Office Suite applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and data analytics to develop innovative solutions to short-term task and longer-term organizational challenges.
  • Energized by opportunities for creative problem solving
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and ability to work with a distributed and cross-functional team of colleagues
  • Manage time in a remote work environment, maintaining responsibilities across multiple projects at various stages of completion with time-sensitive deliverables.
  • Able to travel 5-10% throughout the US & Toronto.
