Introduction & Key Role Objectives

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland & the Philippines. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.
The primary function of this position is to support the management of dewatering projects from design, schedules, budgets, resources, and quality standards. The role involves facilitating design activities, supervising site operations, and liaising with clients to ensure project success.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Support Project Managers by overseeing dewatering project activities, managing contract and commercial aspects, ensuring high standards, compliance with contract terms, managing change orders, and following up with clients for necessary actions.
  • Contribute to the development and application of dewatering system methodologies and techniques to ensure high-quality technical delivery and maintain industry expertise.
  • Aid the Finance Department and Project Managers in achieving commercial success and revenue collection, including preparing AFPs at billing cycle ends.
  • Monitor dewatering performance, oversee material selection and system modifications, and suggest optimizations based on project goals and site conditions.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics Manager to arrange material shipments for dewatering systems, and source quality equipment and related products at competitive prices.
  • Oversee site activities to minimize labour hours and liaise with clients, site staff, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure project progress.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation of WJs contractual activities including the collection, collation and presentation of data.
  • Perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting regular progress reports and participating in team meetings.
  • Support the preparation of Method Statements, working drawings, and work procedures
  • Contribute to business development activities, including site visits, client discussions, and the preparation of tenders and quotations for new contracts
  • Ensure personal health and safety, prepare Risk Assessments, brief, and audit site staff to enforce safe working practices.
  • Track project expenditures and workforce requirements to ensure financial profitability.
  • Prepare accurate and timely engineering and financial status reports for WJs clients.
  • Manage project programs to meet contractual targets and consistently achieve top-tier industry benchmarks for quality, financials, and overall project delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A motivated and hardworking individual with good verbal and written communication skills is essential.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental) or a related field
  • At least 1 year of experience in design, project coordination, and/or construction within dewatering, groundwater management, or related infrastructure.
  • An understanding of water management, hydrogeology, engineering geology, or civil engineering, including water well drilling, development and rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with construction industry contracts and commercial issues is preferred.
  • Advanced IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Autodesk Suite
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, capable of managing workloads and multiple high-value projects under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to read and modify technical drawings and effectively communicate complex ideas to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
  • A valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle is required for travel between project sites.

Working Conditions

The role is office based at our BC office, but you will be expected to visit our clients sites for meetings, site walkovers, site inductions, undertake project briefings and you will sometimes be expected to spend 100 percent of your workday on our worksites.

Working with WJ colleagues and our clients for the installation of water treatment systems in both outdoor & indoor environments (often within tunnels, adits and shafts, which are frequently classified as low to medium risk confined spaces). You must be comfortable working in all outside weather conditions, on heavy industrial construction sides and within confined spaces.
Standard working hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility needed. Overtime may be required on evenings and weekends, and it can often be at short notice based on client demands.
