Position Summary

We are looking for an Automation Developer to design, develop, and maintain automation solutions that enhance efficiency and streamline processes. This role involves developing automated scripts, integrating with CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with developers, product owners, testers and business unit teams to improve software quality and system reliability. The ideal candidate has strong programming skills, experience with automation frameworks, and a deep understanding of cloud and on-premise technologies.

Responsibilities

Automation Development & Scripting

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for software testing and deployment processes.
  • Create and maintain automation solutions using programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript.
  • Develop custom automation frameworks and tools to support development and operational processes.

Test & Process Automation

  • Automate functional, regression, and performance testing using frameworks like Selenium, Robot Framework or Playwright.
  • Implement API test automation using Postman or REST Assured.
  • Optimize and maintain automated test suites to ensure robust test coverage.

CI/CD & DevOps Integration

  • Integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Biceps and Arm Templates.
  • Improve deployment automation, configuration management, and system monitoring.

Performance & Reliability Engineering

  • Implement performance testing automation using tools like JMeter.
  • Monitor and analyze automation test results to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Work with developers and testers to identify automation opportunities and best practices.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with software engineers, QA testers, and DevOps teams to improve software quality.
  • Research and implement new automation tools and technologies.
  • Document automation frameworks, tools, and best practices for knowledge sharing.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in automation testing, DevOps, or cloud platforms (e.g., ISTQB Test Automation Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) are a plus.

Technical Concepts & Methodologies

  • Strong understanding of test automation frameworks and DevOps automation practices.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud automation.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot issues.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in automation development, test automation, or DevOps automation.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, cloud environments, and infrastructure automation.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining automation frameworks.

Technical Environment

  • Automation Frameworks: Robot Framework, Selenium, Playwright, Appium.
  • Scripting & Programming: Python, Java, JavaScript.
  • CI/CD Tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, Docker.
  • Cloud Platforms: Azure.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, Biceps, Arm Templates.
  • Performance Testing: JMeter.
  • Version Control: Git, GitHub, Bitbucket.
  • API Testing Tools: Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Language: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Work Hours: Ability to work on-call on a rotational basis
  • Travel: Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally approx. 5 weeks/year
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance.
