DescriptionThe Role
We'd like you to conduct an experiment. Log on to X. Search "dbrand marketing". Open a new tab. Search "[your company's name] marketing". Compare and contrast the results.
Our brand promise is simple: "It's not a product. It's a culture.™" That's a lot more than a catchphrase -- it's core to everything we do. Whether we're sending content creators birthday cakes with baked-in phones, roasting beggars on social media, nuking PETA, or creating a mini-documentary of a customer getting our logo tattooed on their leg, we're in the business of building a brand experience first, and delivering (world-class) products second. In return, we've amassed a cult. That, and access to a lot of wallets. We won't lie: it's a pretty sweet deal.
Our retention marketing machine is one of our most powerful tools when it comes to spreading the good word of dbrand to the unwashed masses. We're looking for a Retention Marketing Manager who can supercharge that machine. Whether they're developing and maintaining loyalty programs, optimizing campaign strategy, or finding methods to further improve our gold-standard email and SMS channel flows, the Retention Marketing Manager retains a singular focus: evolve the cult. If that doesn't sound like your kind of job, save us all some time and close the tab. The job isn't right for you.
If, on the other hand, you're the sort of analytical and motivated individual that we're looking for -- possessing razor-sharp judgment and a knack for critical thinking -- you should keep reading. "dbrand marketing" and "[your company's name] marketing" might end up being identical search queries.
The Environment
Still here? Excellent. dbrand thrives where other eCommerce companies have failed because our customers enjoy a revolutionary degree of commitment, engagement, and accessibility from us. Maintaining an internal culture of excellence, the likes of which our highly-engaged audience demands and deserves, is critical to dbrand's current and future success. Our customers deserve no less than the absolute best, and we hold every member of the team to that exacting standard.
So, what's in it for you? Well, unlike most companies, we actually care about the work we're doing. Every time our customers tweet about us, post on our subreddit, or write an adoring email, we're moving one step closer to world domination. Spreading the good word and growing our cult-like audience? That's its own reward. At dbrand, you have the opportunity to create once-in-a-lifetime brand experiences for consumers. If you're someone who's organized, committed, and excited about our mission, to say you'd thrive here would be an understatement.
Before you can get the opportunity to join our passionate, dynamic team and help us grow the cult, you'll need to prove yourself. Let's see if you've got what it takes…
The Characteristics
  • Agile: You're nimble. You're adaptable. You thrive in an environment where priorities can change in an instant.
  • Analytical: Your decisions are driven by only one thing: data. You continue to master all the tools necessary to surface insights.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy purposeful meetings. You value the contributions and perspectives of your CEO as much as you do your coworkers.
  • Curious: You're eager to learn new concepts and master new skills. There's no tool that's useless in your arsenal.
  • Disciplined: You never allow the details to slip, understanding that every bit of minutiae forms the bigger picture.
  • Enthusiastic: You exhibit a contagious passion for digital marketing.
  • Innovative: You develop new approaches to complex problems.
  • Perfectionist: You persist until the smallest detail has been optimized. Knows nothing less than 100%.
  • Persistent: You've never failed. You've only experienced speed bumps on your path to success.
  • Reliable: You live up to both verbal and written agreements. You can be trusted to work effectively, without oversight.

The Responsibilities and QualificationsIn order to make a positive impact as part of our team, your focus in this role will be to:
  • Campaign Strategy & Execution: Own the retention marketing calendar, managing:
    • Planned Launches: Coordinate with internal teams (Graphic Design, Copywriting, Product Development) to create timely, impactful campaigns aligned with new product drops.
    • Ad-hoc Engagement Plays: Conceptualize and execute inventive, boundary-pushing campaigns that leverage our brand's irreverent personality (example), driving earned media and social virality.
  • Lifecycle Marketing: Strategically define, implement, and continuously optimize automated flows, including:
    • Welcome Sequences
    • Cart and Browse Abandonment
    • Post-Purchase Engagement
    • Related Product Recommendations
    • Re-activation Campaigns
    • Referral Incentives
    • Loyalty Programs
  • Post-Purchase Upsells: Identify strategic product attachment opportunities (e.g., screen protector upsells for case-only purchases). Develop detailed briefs for Graphic Design and Copywriting teams, oversee implementation, analyze performance, and continuously optimize to maximize additional revenue.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Serve as the hub of alignment, coordinating effectively between Product Development, Customer Experience, Graphic Design, and Copywriting to maintain cohesive and timely execution across all retention marketing initiatives.
  • SMS Channel Innovation: Create and scale complementary SMS campaigns that amplify email marketing efforts, driving deeper customer engagement.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Regularly track, analyze, and communicate critical retention metrics such as 12-month repurchase rates, churn rates, and LTV growth. Ensure constant optimization through testing. You'll use data to refine strategies, optimize campaigns, and improve customer lifetime value.
  • Trend & Innovation Monitoring: Stay ahead by continuously exploring new retention strategies, technologies, and competitive insights to ensure dbrand remains an industry leader.
If you find a box you can't check, stop reading and look for a company who demands less from their Marketing team:
  • A degree, diploma, or a wealth of experience in Branding or Creative Marketing.
  • Five years experience driving marketing strategy for a modern, digital-first brand.
  • A deep understanding of modern digital marketing including knowledge on best-in-class tools, channels in the customer funnel, and how creative (art, video, and copy) impacts the overall customer experience.
  • Results driven, and the ability to see the big picture with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • The ability to create a shared vision, inspire collaboration, and drive change with momentum.
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and the tact to be both informative and persuasive.
  • The instinct to help teammates thrive and the openness to learn from past experiences.
  • The agility to quickly shift focus to new priorities and fast-paced conditions.
  • The ability to solve complex problems (or know where to find the answer).
  • Advanced computer skills, not limited to Klaviyo, Figma, G Suite, TripleWhale, bidding platforms (Adwords, Facebook, etc.), PM tools, A/B and multivariate testing.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, self-sufficient, resourceful, organized, and proactive.
  • Commitment to long-term growth and learning opportunities.
  • Insights and engagement with the current state of mobile technology.

The Moment of TruthThe job starts between $100,000 and $130,000 per year with health, dental, vision, profit-sharing and GRSP benefits. We're located a few minutes west of Pearson Airport.
