The Drake Hotel Properties, a renowned Canadian hospitality brand, is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Accounting Manager, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. With multiple properties, including The Drake Hotel, Drake Devonshire, Drake Motor Inn, and Drake Underground, we have established ourselves as leaders in the hospitality industry, providing exceptional experiences and promoting values-driven hospitality.

As the Accounting Manager, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of our organization. You will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. You will work closely with the executive team and department heads to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

This position will require a combination of hands-on productivity and management level planning and oversight. Your primary responsibility is the timely and accurate completion of financial statements and management reporting for stakeholders throughout the organization. You will ensure all existing accounting policies, procedures and processes are adhered to and in accordance with best practices. You will establish financial regimen by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. Other accountabilities include, but not limited to:

  • Prepare and review month-end financial statements.
  • Present monthly financial statement to operational stakeholders.
  • Prepare and review all balance sheet reconciliation on a monthly basis.
  • Review and approve payroll and sales commission. Record payroll journals.
  • Prepare and upload all month end journals for assigned property including accruals, allocations, period end adjustments, payroll, benefits, etc..
  • Support annual budgeting efforts. Prepare, Coordinate and ensure budget is completed timely.
  • Leading and participating in departmental projects such as process improvements, launch/integration of new technology & systems and internal audit initiatives.
  • Prepare and report monthly cashflow. Monitor and manage cashflow requirements.
  • Prepare and report financial forecasting.
  • Management and co-ordination of annual audit/review tasks.
  • Government reporting and compliance (WSIB, HST).
  • Lead and guide accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • CPA designation or working towards is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
  • Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Proficient in financial reporting and analysis tools
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
