Title: Kitchen Assistant

Reports to: Food Security & Outreach Coordinator

Based at: SCP Shelter

Employment: Elect-to-work

Pay Range: $16 - $19 per hour

Hours: 24hrs/week - 11am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday to Friday, and 10am to 6:30pm on Tuesday (Opportunity for Full-time after probation)

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in food preparation, cooking, and meal plating according to recipes and guidelines
  • Assist with food preparation tasks, including chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, and assembling dishes.Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste properly.
  • Help with inventory management by restocking supplies and ensuring that all ingredients are fresh and properly stored.
  • Follow proper food handling and safety procedures and sanitation guidelines to ensure a safe working environment
  • Provide timely assistance during busy periods
  • Participate in kitchen clean-up at the end of shifts, ensuring all equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations
  • Help with grocery shopping, inventory management, and stock rotation
Licence/Certification (Education & Experience)
  • Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
Requirements (Skills & Competencies)
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Cultural awareness required
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Exceptional time management skills required
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and carrying items up to 30 pounds.
