Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking a Technical Writer to create, edit, and maintain clear and concise technical documentation for our products, systems, and processes. This role requires a strong understanding of technology and the ability to translate complex technical information into user-friendly documentation. The ideal candidate will collaborate with engineers, developers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to produce high-quality content that supports end-users, developers, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

Documentation Development & Maintenance

  • Create and maintain user guides, manuals, online help content, FAQs, API documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Develop instructional materials for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with branding, style guidelines, and company standards.

Collaboration & Content Gathering

  • Work closely with engineers, developers, product managers, and support teams to gather technical information.
  • Conduct interviews, research, and hands-on testing to understand system functionality.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand documentation.

Editing & Quality Assurance

  • Review, edit, and proofread documentation for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Ensure documentation is up to date with product releases and system updates.
  • Maintain document version control and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Content Delivery & Management

  • Publish documentation using content management systems (CMS), wikis, and collaboration tools.
  • Organize and categorize information for easy access and searchability.
  • Gather user feedback to improve documentation effectiveness.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) are an asset.

Technical Concepts & Methodologies

  • Knowledge of technical writing principles and structured writing (DITA, Markdown, XML).
  • Understanding of software development processes and API documentation.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps environments.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or a related field.
  • Experience using documentation tools.

Technical Environment

  • Documentation Tools: Microsoft Word (Expert Level), Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, other.
  • Media Editing Tools: SnagIt, Camtasia, Visio, PhotoShop.
  • Content Management Systems (CMS): SharePoint, OneDrive.
  • Project Management Tools: Jira

Mandatory Requirements

  • Language: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Reliability (Level I) clearance
