Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

The maintenance man's job involves a variety of duties for minor repairs and maintenance activities at the work site ensuring tasks are completed properly including record keeping of these activities. Comply with all Dexterra policies and safe work procedures at the worksite. Provide tenant comfort and response, tenant assistance, general customer service.
Reports to Account Director

Your work will include:

1. To ensure effective client, tenant and public relations:

  • Problem solving reflects consideration of the company, client, patrons and employees
  • Complaints are handled quickly, and politely and the manager and/or client is notified where required
  • Assist new employees to receive appropriate training and coaching

2. General upkeep and maintenance of the building - minor carpet repairs, wall patching, wall painting, flooring and wall tile.

3. Door repairs (hinges, pivots, door handles, door closures),
4. Maintain shop and tool inventories, including safe storage of all supplies. Assures proper
maintenance and functioning of equipment and arranges for repairs as necessary.
5. Repair, replace, and maintain electrical wiring, fuses, switches, lighting systems, and other fixtures and equipment. Electrical limited to replacement of switches and plugs that are damaged
6. Replace light bulbs (florescent, incandescent, LED, Halogen, compact florescent). Any bulb replacement must consider working at height Safety Guidelines. Bulbs are disposed of in appropriate containers
7. Removal and replacement of damaged tiles or removal of ceiling tiles to allow for limited visual inspection of ceilings for checking of heating and sprinklers, this task must consider working at height Safety Guidelines
8. General upkeep and maintenance of the building - minor carpet repairs, wall patching, wall surfaces for painting, wallpapering, or staining, flooring and wall tile in common areas.
9. Occupational Health and Safety - complete job hazard assessments as detailed on the JSA matrix, training within safety policy (scissor lift, man lifts, fall restraint, confined spaces, ACM,), WHMIS, first aid,
10. Do not remove any company/client property item from the work site
11. Report any unsafe conditions and/or hazards to your supervisor and client promptly
11. Emergency response procedures as included in the building's emergency response plans
13. DO NOT report for work if you are "not fit to work". Not fit for work means that you are unable to perform or complete your assigned work tasks in a mannerthat may compromise the safety or health of yourself or fellow employees.
14. Participates in committee meetings such as quality management, and Health and Safety, as required.
15. Only use designated cell phones, mobile phones and other similar devices during regular work hours. All personal devices of this nature shall be turned off as incoming and outgoing calls, retrieving messages; and texting except where required and approved for business purposes or where approved by the employee's manager.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Has experience with general repairs such as painting, flooring, minor electrical work, and door hardware.

  • Is a team player with strong communication and customer service skills to assist tenants and clients.

  • Can troubleshoot and solve problems efficiently while maintaining professionalism.
