Job DescriptionReporting to the Manager of Trading, the Trading Associate is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the trading function for VPIC. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trading Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing trades across various asset classes, monitoring portfolio allocations, and supporting the senior trading team. Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient handling of daily trading activity and the implementation of VPIC portfolios, including:
- Execute trades across a variety of asset classes including equities, mutual funds, fixed income, and foreign exchange.
- Carrying out trading instructions as received from authorized registered representatives, ensuring that all transactions are carried out accurately and efficiently. This includes verifying the details of each trade, coordinating with relevant departments to facilitate smooth execution, and maintaining comprehensive records of all trading activities. Additionally, it involves adhering to regulatory requirements and internal policies to ensure compliance and mitigate risks associated with trading operations.
- Liaise with counterparts and the operations team to assist with day-to-day bookings and settlements. This involves coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded and processed in a timely manner. Responsibilities include verifying trade details, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring that all necessary documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role requires effective communication and collaboration with the operations team to address any issues that may arise during the settlement process, as well as providing support for any ad-hoc requests related to bookings and settlements.
- The candidate will assist with managing portfolio rebalancing, as well as reweighting mandate portfolios when instructed by a portfolio manager.
- Provide support for various unplanned tasks assigned by management and senior traders. This role requires flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide range of requests, such as troubleshooting issues, facilitating communication between teams, and contributing to special projects. By effectively managing these ad hoc tasks, you help ensure that management and senior traders can focus on strategic decision-making and maintain smooth trading operations.
- Conduct reviews and monitoring of trading processes and procedures to ensure they are efficient and effective. This involves identifying areas for improvement, implementing best practices, and ensuring that the trading team operates smoothly and consistently.
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, or related discipline.
- 1-2 years of experience in a financial services environment is preferred but is not a mandatory requirement. Candidates with relevant skills and a strong interest in the field are encouraged to apply, even if they do not have direct experience.
- Willingness to expand on professional qualifications by completing the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or similar program.
Technical Knowledge:
- We are looking for someone with strong technical skills. Excel and VBA knowledge is considered an asset but is not required. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with complex spreadsheets to enhance productivity and streamline current processes.
- Capable of learning and mastering Salesforce and our Portfolio Management software. This includes understanding the key functionalities and features of both platforms to effectively use them in daily operations.
