The Skilled Labourer will be responsible for the general duties of new construction and remodelling projects under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and/or Site Superintendent.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with construction industry safety standards and be able to work under minimal supervision. The Skilled Labourer will follow directions from the Supervisor closely and possibly be available to act as an assistant to the Site Supervisor. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.
Job Duties
General labour, including some heavy lifting.
Some carpentry work, as assigned.
Work with the team to get jobs done safely and efficiently to meet timelines.
Performing other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed your own limitations.
Understanding and complying with all policies and procedures.
Maintaining a clean working area free from debris between tasks and at the end of day.
Ensure job-site safety is maintained.
Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Requirements
High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience in residential and/or commercial construction
Ability to operate equipment (skid steer, telehandler)
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR an asset.
Effective verbal and listening communications skills.
Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current.
Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
Work Conditions
44 hours per week; Monday Friday; 7-4:30pm (subject to change)
Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
May be required to work alone.
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
Requires the ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet.
May be exposed to loud noise.
Excellent stamina is required.
Works outdoors in all-weather conditions.
Hazards associated with the construction industry.
