Job Title: Accounting Manager, Residential Development

Our client is a leading real estate and land development company with a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, and industrial projects. With a strong pipeline of both high-rise and low-rise developments planned over the next decade, they are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager, to oversee the accounting functions for their residential development portfolio.
Job Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing all accounting activities related to residential projects, including financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, and project cost management. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with expertise in construction cost accounting and financial oversight in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger and prepare year-end working paper files, including posting journal entries and preparing financial statements.
- Generate quarterly financial reports and monthly project reports for lenders.
- Develop, implement, and manage construction accounting systems, including setting up projects, budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, and change orders.
- Oversee monthly bank reconciliations, control accounts (AR/AP), intercompany balances, and balance sheet account schedules.
- Review HST reconciliations, file HST returns, and ensure timely remittances for each project.
- Handle project-related accounting tasks, including acquisition and sales closing entries, budget adjustments, and cash flow forecasting.
- Ensure accurate preparation and verification of Statements of Adjustments (SOAs) to align with records at closing.
- Generate and reconcile intercompany charge-back billings.
- Oversee accounts payable, including reviewing purchase orders, processing invoices, and ensuring holdbacks are managed per contract agreements.
- Manage and support A/P staff, ensuring invoice processing accuracy and proper financial documentation.
- Oversee bank loans and BA renewals.
- Assist with other accounting-related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in real estate construction/job cost accounting or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction cost accounting and financial procedures.
- Experience with Newstar (Constellation) is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience with year-end working paper preparation and CaseWare is preferred.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) required.
- Knowledge of Yardi is an asset.
- Previous experience managing and motivating staff.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
