z/OS Software Engineer – IMS Database Administrator
We seek an experienced Mainframe IMS Application Database Administrator to provide technical leadership in IMS database administration, performance optimization, and mainframe systems support. This role requires hands-on expertise in z/OS environments, database recovery, and cross-team collaboration to ensure high availability of critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration & Maintenance: Manage IMS databases (including HALDB, IMS Catalog) across development, test, and production environments. Create/modify PSBs, DBDs, and ACBs for VSAM and IMS datasets
Performance & Security: Conduct performance monitoring, tuning, and security audits for mainframe applications. Implement Top Secret configurations and troubleshoot JCL, CICS, and VSAM workflows
Backup & Recovery: Execute forward recoveries, DBRC-managed processes, and batch backout procedures. Recover IMS Catalog from image copies or ACBLIB sources as needed
Collaboration: Partner with Mainframe Systems teams to ensure application availability and support Legacy Systems/Mainframe Transformation initiatives
Technical Leadership: Guide IMS application teams on best practices for HALDB partitioning, ISPF/REXX automation, and Informatica Power Exchange integrations
Qualifications:
7+ years in z/OS systems programming (TSO, SYSVIEW, SDSF) and IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEBGENER)
5+ years in IMS database administration, DBRC, and COBOL programming (CICS/IMS)
3+ years with ISMF storage, REXX scripting, and SFTP/FTPS batch processing
2+ years in IMS HALDB, Catalog configurations, and IPPrintway printer management
Working knowledge of logically related IMS databases, IMS Monitor, and Fast Path synchronization
Preferred Skills:
Experience with z/OSMF automation and HALDB online reorganization
Familiarity with database versioning, DL/I call optimization, and emergency restart protocols
Location: Preference for hybrid availability, 90%+ remote work (Must be legally entitled to work in the US and located in the US)
