Salary: $22.50 to $26.00 per hour

akisqnuk First Nation is seeking aPeer Support Worker (PSW) to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support for those navigating mental health and substance use challenges. This role is for someone with lived experience in recovery or harm reduction who is passionate about building trust, reducing stigma, and fostering community healing.

akisqnuk First Nation (AFN) is a member Community of the Ktunaxa Nation. AFN exists for the Community. Note: This position is part-time, up to 20 hours each week, with a flexible schedule requiring some evening and weekend support.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Outreach & Community Support: Build trust-based relationships, provide 1:1 peer support, and distribute harm reduction supplies.
  • Pre/Post-Treatment Support: Help individuals prepare for and transition from treatment programs, assisting with referrals and aftercare planning.
  • Peer Network Building: Facilitate culturally safe, peer-led groups (e.g., Wellbriety, recovery circles) and create spaces for mutual support.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Work alongside Elders, harm reduction teams, and health professionals while maintaining confidential records.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience with substance use, recovery, or mental health challenges (required).
  • Knowledge of harm reduction, Indigenous healing practices, and community wellness approaches.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet community needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • NOTE: A criminal check and vulnerable sector search will be conducted on the successful applicant
