Under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, the Engineer in Training will assist in the design, co-ordination, and project manage of various capital projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in co-ordination, design and managing of various annual capital projects including concrete restoration, and renovation involving electrical, mechanical, and interior fit-out projects by preparing drawings and specifications, assist in tender process, and represent as the TPA representative during execution of work.
- Assist in co-ordination, design, and managing rehabilitation and new construction of surface Carpark lots with understanding of civil storm water management, asphalt design, civil utilities, site servicing and car park layouts. Assist in on-site supervision of new surface Carpark construction.
- Assist in co-ordination and review of preliminary and final drawings prepared by outside consultants with respect to compliance with TPA and or statutory guidelines and standards.
- Design using AutoCAD for surface parking layouts, plans (general layout and phasing), site servicing, grading and drainage, and updates to TPA typical and project details.
- Assist TPA engineers to Initiate and Prepare Tender Documents, Contract Documents, Change Orders and Payment Certificates, as required.
- Assist in tracking Contractor's invoices for VP's approval and final payment.
- Assist in managing relationships with project stakeholders including internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and regulatory agencies, and the public. This involves keeping stakeholders informed of the issues and progress to manage stakeholder expectations on project requirements such as deliverables, and schedule.
- Assist in tracking and managing projects on actual performance against plan for internal reporting purposes.
- Assist in preparation of quantities and cost estimates for project budget purposes.
- Assist in scheduling, phasing and co-ordination of all capital work with all TPA Staff including Site Supervisors, as required.
- When directed, attend meetings, keep records of the meeting and prepare correspondence.
- Observe and verify that contractor follows proper construction practices, and complies with health and safety regulations.
- Complete any other assignments or tasks as directed. Ensure that assigned work is completed within prescribed timelines and in compliance with established protocols and staff directives.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education from an accredited engineering degree program with a focus in civil or structural engineering.
- Work experience in the field of civil or structural engineering would be an asset.
- Experience delivering projects of varying complexity, size, and scope in a team environment.
- Experience using a variety of software products such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of design and drafting software use of AutoCAD.
- Experience in the design of surface parking lots including design layout, grading, surface drainage and landscape would be an asset.
- Developed interpersonal, client service and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil/structural engineering and especially of the equipment, processes, procedures, practices, and standards used in the design/rehabilitation and construction of parking infrastructure.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills (negotiation, relationship building, presentation, conflict resolution) both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Driver's License Class "G" and the ability to travel to various work locations and construction sites in a timely manner.
- Must have access to a vehicle for frequent site visits.
- This position is a two (2) year contract.
