Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Buildings and Infrastructure Field Engineer to join our process team, based in Leroy, SK. The Field Engineer will be responsible for conducting field inspections and participating in construction walk-throughs. They will focus on ensuring the relevant aspects of construction meet the design intent. Buildings and Infrastructure Field Engineer shall address technical queries and non-conformance reports related to the design. They will primarily work within the Integrated Construction Centre (ICC) platforms to issue technical queries, non-conformance reports, and other notices as necessary. The Building and Infrastructure Field Engineer shall serve as the liaison between the Owner (BHP), the Engineers of Record (HBJV), and the construction team for all engineering-related work across all disciplines. This shall include the interpretation of designs and technical and engineering functional standards, as well as seeking validation as required to support the construction team. Join usin this full-time permanent role and be a champion of diversity and inclusion.

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, HBJV is currently undertaking the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems, as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools, to execute this exciting project.

* Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on a 14-day on, 7-day off rotation. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes mandatory field inspections for all infrastructure included within the scope.
  • Sign applicable check sheets upon completion of field inspection.
  • Reviews submittals related to multi-disciplinary scope of work (contractor project execution plan, quality plan, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspection records)
  • Issues quality incident reports • Manages the following as they pertain to the Buildings scopes - Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Notices (FCNs), Field Change Reports (FCRs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Communication of procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within design changes and field engineering changes with the construction and engineering teams
  • Ensures they effectively and efficiently leverage ICC platforms and systems to submit queries, notices, and reports.
  • Review installed quantities.
  • Participates in construction walk-downs and verifies the closure of punch list items.
  • Review turnover documentation
  • Ensures they adhere to and exhibit Jansen's core values.
  • Confirmation that the Contractor completes all minimum maintenance and inspection activities for the building contractors' scopes of work.
  • Participates in the site risk and control ownership as required.
  • Generates reports as required on building contractors' engineering deliverables, execution, and turnover.
  • Operates daily, ensuring that activities are prioritized in accordance with broader objectives.
  • Ensures that they manage their time effectively and adhere to deadlines.
  • Attend and participate in the weekly contractor quality meeting.
  • Prepare field sketches for temporary facilities as needed.
  • Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to the various disciplines of the building contractors.
  • Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.

Qualifications
  • A recognized bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience
  • A professional Engineering license valid in the Province of Saskatchewan is seen as an asset.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in Field Engineering, multi discipline engineering an asset.
  • Strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, including ISO standards and auditing processes, as well as their application to major project delivery or program management.
  • High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies.
  • Functional knowledge of industry-leading functional standards and engineering management practices in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment, including 3D data-centric platforms
  • Working knowledge of engineering, contracts and procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health and safety, environmental management, community engagement, and risk management in multidisciplinary workflows and interactions for large capital projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including functional managers, discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors, and contractors.
