About Us
The Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP) is BC's leading construction job-matching program, delivered by the BC Construction Association (BCCA). With a team of 11 Regional Employment Placement Specialists (REPS) across 8 regional offices, STEP connects skilled trades employers with job-ready candidates and helps individuals who are under-represented in the trades access apprenticeship opportunities.
The Opportunity
Were hiring a Regional Employment Placement Specialist (REPS) for the Thompson/Nicola region, based out of Kamloops. In this dynamic, community-focused role, youll support individuals pursuing careers in the skilled trades by helping them become job ready and connecting them to apprenticeship opportunities.
Youll also build relationships with employers, trades training providers, and local organizations to match job-ready candidates to opportunities in the construction sector. While youll work independently in your region, youll be supported by a collaborative and experienced provincial team.
What Youll be Doing
Developing strong connections with local employers, educators, and service providers
Promoting STEP through presentations, outreach, and community engagement
Assessing job seekers for eligibility and helping them build tailored employment plans
Coaching participants on soft skills, interview preparation, and workplace expectations
Connecting candidates with meaningful trades employment
Conducting site visits and supporting employer-employee success on the job
Maintaining accurate files and reporting in line with program requirements
Representing STEP at community events and local initiatives
What You Bring
Understanding of BCs apprenticeship system (SkilledTradesBC)
Knowledge of the regional construction sector and employment trends
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
Self-motivation with strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
Familiarity with working efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Valid Class 5 drivers license and reliable vehicle (travel is required)
Bonus: Experience in the construction industry, skilled trades, employment services, and/or journeyperson certification
