Position Summary

We are seeking a Supportive Child Development Consultant to joinour team, working collaboratively to enhance the well-being of children and families in our community.


Under the direction of the Child Development Team Lead, the Supportive Child Development Consultantprovides culturally informed support and guidance to children from birth to age 19 and their families. This roleinvolves developing individual program plans, facilitating group activities, and working both independentlyand with partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes for clients. The Supportive Child DevelopmentConsultant will also engage in community relations activities to support clients and strengthen connections withinthe community.

What you'll do

  • Complete home/Centre visits to assess infant/child development and plan withparents/families/childcare staff to stimulate or enhance optimal development strategies and monitortheir progress.
  • Administer developmental assessments and draft reports and recommendations. Assessments mayinclude the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ, ASQ:SE), DayC and AEPS.
  • Ability to develop, implement and Evaluate ISPs that reflect the choices and priorities identified bytheir families.
  • Complete documents, observations, and assessments as necessary to determine eligibility forSCDP/ASCDP with families and childcare providers and determine the appropriate levels of support tobe provided.
  • Work as a team member with Support Workers to plan and implement daily activities and experiencesto meet goals and objectives as documented in the childs Individual Service Plan.
  • Provide day-to-day coverage for support workers when they are ill, when and if necessary carry outthe duties of support workers.
  • Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date files for each child; ensure necessary forms and consents arecomplete; prepare reports as requested by parents.
  • When requested by parents, they function as team coordinators. Coordinate and participate in teammeetings with families and other team members.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Support Workers in childcare settings.
  • From partnerships with other health, education, and community service providers to meet the goalsof specific children and families.
  • Assist in providing or facilitating education and training to childcare providers and community settingstaff in inclusion, family-centered practice, culturally appropriate and Aboriginal practices and otheridentified areas of need or interest.
  • Maintain confidentiality; except in the case of abuse & neglect, which you are required to report bylaw.
  • Perform all other related duties and tasks as required based on the specific needs of the family, theprogram, and the community.
  • Act as a resource person to parents/families.
  • Make appropriate referrals for further assessments and services as required.
  • Advocate for parents/families and increase community awareness of the needs of SCDP/ASCDP.
  • Act as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and demonstrate respect for people of all ages.
  • Transport children and families as required.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education Certification required.
  • Special Needs Diploma is required
  • Infant Toddler Certification an asset
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working within Indigenous communities in a childcare setting ispreferred.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of Indigenous culturestraditions, and contemporary issues.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience and training in inclusive, family-centered service delivery, child development and earlyintervention.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate child-centered intervention plans.
  • Knowledge/understanding of physical / medical challenges.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed client records and draft monthly reports.

  • Possess developed assessment skills and advocacy skills. Possess knowledge of group process andfacilitation techniques.
  • Must be a mature individual who demonstrates assertiveness, effective interpersonal skills, and theability to work cooperatively with co-workers, children and families and wholl work in partnershipwith other programs and resources.

Working / Special Conditions

  • Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check to ensurethe safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
  • Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'wqel (Seabird Island Band),including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. This commitmentsupports our collective work, the community, and the responsibilities of this role.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation,insured for community-based use, to effectively travel between our facilities and the communities weserve to support our clients and work.
