Position Summary:

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Utility Relief Operator is responsible for learning all positions within the production department supporting sick relief and vacation coverage, safe operation of equipment and ensuring general cleanliness & maintenance along with health & safety in the workplace

POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to cross-train in all production roles (Receiving, Control Room, Shunting, Shipping)
  • A leader on floor driving operational excellence, teamwork, Health & Safety and continuous improvement
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all Health and Safety Policies
  • Knowledgeable of all health & safety rules and for communicating incidents and submitting e-compliance reports.
  • Support training and use of standard operating procedures (SOP's)
  • Supporting Production preventative maintenance tasks
  • Working with team members to maintain a clean and orderly production department.
  • Capable of driving heavy equipment and ensure safe driving operations. Ensure that shunt trucks, fleet tractors, and trailers are in a clean and presentable condition.
  • Accurate completion and submission of all required paperwork including but not limited to: materials documents, scale tickets, housekeeping, PSQA & HACCP forms, shift reports, etc.
  • Maintaining optimal production levels and notifying management in a timely fashion of any equipment breakdowns or operating irregularities
  • Responsible for troubleshooting production issues that may arise
  • Support collaborative communication with other departments, such as Sales, Fleet, Maintenance & Environmental
  • Recommend joining the JHSC eventually
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong leadership attitude and skillset
  • Ability to read and write proficiently
  • Must be flexible to work shifts and overtime as required
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to Darling's company values
  • Physically able to perform the work
  • Class 5 drivers' license
  • Other duties as required which could consist of assisting in other departments

PHYSICAL ABILTIES:

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, pulling, pushing, lifting etc.
  • Must be able to alternate between standing, walking and driving for long periods of time
  • Must be able to climb onto truck trailers
  • Must be able to push/pull to connect hoses to trailers
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Typical of a food manufacturing plant environment including high volume of raw material smell, changeable weather and temperature conditions.
  • Noise level from moderate to high.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements criteria for all other production department job descriptions
