Position: Master Production Scheduler – 3 Plants

Position Reports To: Head of Sales

Position Overview

The Master Production Scheduler drives shareholder value by developing daily, weekly and monthly production schedules per manufacturing line based on sales forecasts, purchase orders, customer requests, delivery dates, plant personnel, equipment capabilities and inventory availability and guides the production activities and resources to maximize efficiency and meet output and timeline objectives across 3 value added meat processing facilities. Gathers data from internal teams to incorporate materials, inventories, resource availability, and delivery commitments into schedules. Monitors daily production results and revises scheduling responsive to changes in the flow of materials, designs, equipment, or other resources. Utilizes ERP systems, planning and scheduling software, or other database tools to develop and maintain master schedules and generate reporting.

This position supports the Production Managers, Production teams, Cost Accountants, Sales & Operations Planning Manager and Head Office Finance team to determine optimal overtime, downtime, partial run costs, promotions, sales and volume for optimal and cost efficient production runs. Additionally, works closely with the Processing Administrators in Compton, Pedricktown and Toronto processing facilities, and the Procurement teams.

Major Responsibilities

  • Create, coordinate and schedule all Production runs by line
    • Ensure optimal packaging levels are maintained to ensure no stoppage in production and no excess packaging inventory
    • Ensure raw materials are on hand
    • Create pro-forma sheets for various customers specifications
    • Release product to the Production room
    • Determine, communicate and monitor production lead times based on calculated throughputs and equipment and personnel availability
    • Capture costs of all inputs and ensure within budget
    • Evaluates and determines estimated equipment set-ups, cycle times
  • Work with Sales to support new product roll outs and maintain new product specs, create a forecast including full bill of materials, timing, labor, and work schedule and realistic timelines
  • Analyze data and report metrics to develop mitigation strategies, opportunities for improvement and cost savings
  • Records production progress, and ensures that documentation is accurate and that all of the various processes and timelines are followed closely for the most efficient results possible
  • Documents key information, including downtime, peak production, inventory accuracy, and scheduling accuracy
  • Interfaces with organizational stakeholders to better understand business goals and revise master schedules as needed for promotions, high volume runs, new product launches, etc.
  • Provide Head Office Finance team with reports:
    • Prepares monthly expense accrual sheet by location
    • Prepares month end inventory reports for raw material and packaging by location

  • Efficient and timely Production Schedules and forecasts geared to available raw materials
  • Accurate and timely reporting, variance management and mitigation
  • Accurate and complete inventory management in Dynamics

Qualifications & Considerations for the Position

  • Post-secondary diploma
  • 7 to 10 years' production scheduling experience for multiple plants, preferably in the meat or food industry
  • Excellent Excel skills to work with processing spreadsheets; ability to work with formulas and format sheets accordingly
  • Process oriented and system focused, with a continuous improvement approach
  • Collaborative communicator, root cause analysis, and sense of urgency
  • Previous Dynamics 365 experience and Power BI dashboards an asset
  • Excellent ability to plan, organize and prioritize with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Organized self-starter with proven ability to co-ordinate and effectively follow up on multiple projects and assignments and meet all deadlines
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, resolve problems, and keep others informed of status updates
  • Strong math skills, data entry, and keyboarding 55 wpm
  • Professional, calm demeanor, good oral and written communication skills; able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Fluent in English, Spanish an asset
  • Proficient in computer software, such as inventory / traceability software, manufacturing software (GP Dynamics, Dynamics 365) and Microsoft Office
  • Team player with high integrity, values and a positive attitude
